1st Semi Final | NZ vs Pak | Sydney, 09 Nov 2022

For some reason Pak 2009 World championship win goes under the radar even among Pak Fans. I really don't know why as Afridi orchestrated the win and he was a big draw in his playing days.
The 'Cornered Tigers' story is too strong to overtake. Guess every WC win will be under the shadow of that 1992 victory.

NZ has to play Bracewell ahead of Sodhi I reckon.. Pakistan has handled Sodhi well over the years.

It's Finn Allen vs Pakistan pace battery in the end. A fast start & NZ will win this.
Rest of them will struggle vs Rauf especially.
Shadab is MVP for them. They need lefties to negate him somehow. Won't be easy in SCG.

can’t see them dropping Sodhi, he’s had a pretty good tournament so far (as with last year except for the finals) and they’ll always believe he has a higher ceiling than any other spinner bar Santner.

But yes he’s tended to go missing against Pak whereas Shadab tends to do pretty well against NZ. If Conway doesn’t last long, NZ should consider bringing Neesham in earlier. Otherwise an in-form Kane is NZ’s best bet for negating the Shadab threat, and that’s a big if.

Shadab indeed is winning games for Pak & constantly going under the radar.. Probably best wrist spinner going around considering he was superb in last WT20, Asia Cup & now here where spinners tend to struggle.
Right handers would be especially worried as his flippers & googly is tough to negate. Markram in SCG found the same.

Bracewell is a option vs Babar & Rizwan. Both like pace on the ball & don't like facing spin in PP... Especially babar

Osman Samiuddin with an interesting take

Remember Arshdeep Singh's first ball at the MCG that Babar tried to flick across to get some runs? He may have played it straighter had Rizwan not batted out six dot balls the previous over, the game's first.

Babar is taking more risks, perhaps to make up for Rizwan's powerplay strike rate of 111.4 (in the last year)
There's a significant difference in sample sizes but in the two years before Rizwan was opener, Babar was striking at 140 in T20Is and averaging 46; in nearly two years since, the strike rate is down to 127 strike rate and the average 33. For all their successes then, it's worth asking if the partnership is hurting Babar.

Data from the PSL and all T20Is since the last World Cup shows that Babar's been dismissed in the Powerplay playing an attacking shot (as recorded by ESPNcricinfo) six times in 28 innings batting with Rizwan. In 11 innings with other openers, he's not fallen once in that phase playing an attacking shot.

Allen’s been a much needed addition to the side but that’s a lot of responsibility for him to carry. When the fast start doesn’t happen the gameplan seems to be take the innings deep and count on an assault at the end - let’s see how things go.

This game should have been played tonight under the total lunar eclipse, which as everyone knows is a transformative spiritual event of rare power and importance.

Plus it would have looked really cool having a blood moon over the world's greatest cricket ground while such an important match was going on.
In actual fact, a blood red moon hovering above the SCG would have been quite the spectacle, peaking with about an hour of play remaining.
Wonder if it even came into consideration though, perhaps the players would be looking up too much when they shouldn't be.
Just about to head out soon and catch a glimpse, normally this kind of thing turns out i bit anti climatic though.

How many of those blokes are playing this tourney?
Most of the team.

Sodhi, Santner, Boult has great records against India and our out of form top order means if Kohli and SKY has a bad day then it's gonna be pretty bad for us. Plus the embarrasement of losing to a country with 1/1000 of our population.

India at a packed MCG should really be favourites if they make the final, they know the ground better than either possible opponent.
