Was BOTM easier to win in the 00s?

Would the posters of the last decade have stood up to the challenges presented in modern era BOTMs?

Look at the Role call:

00s:
Pickup
Brumby
Vimes
Sm00teh

10s:
Burgey
Gasin Myheart
Fred
Jono*

No disprespect to those from the 00s, but surely the evolution of the forum and countless vBulletin upgrades discount the worth of the pre-2010 titles? Back then, posting was easy, you just argued with Richard, an easy way to pad your stats. Tighter moderation at the turn of the decade meant it was harder to do this as you were more likely to be 'given out' than back then. And there were less people posting in the 00s, which obviously means it's easier to be good.

Therefore, none of the 00s winners can be the greatest poster of all time. Apologies.

*the exception that proves the rule

Lack of professional moderators throughout both eras a significant factor imo. Leads me to the conclusion that there have been no good posters on this site, ever.

The 00's were a more innocent era, you turned up and voted, and the best won. Nowadays the competition has been tainted by political voting and the shameful 'vote begging' scandal.

As no famous philosopher ever said, 'without corruption there can be no progress'

Fred aside the class of the early winners is just so much higher, great posters can adapt to any era.

We shouldn't discount those posters from the pre-BOTM era. Sure, they don't have the BOTM credentials. But statistically they dominated what was available at the time.

with more professionalism in this modern era, can't see burgey's records in the hangover corner ever being challenged

remember a lot of the 10's winners have gained votes because they had not won before
