Here it is...

Q. Why after you post are you taken back to the thread, when it would be better if you taken back to the Forum area. (WCC, Chat, etc.)

I think the rationale for that is so you can see any stupid spelling mistakes or want to revise your post for whatever reason. So many people just post and forget.

Agreed - the current method is pretty good as it follows standard 'top-down entry' design techniques for menu-driven point and click systems.

Yeah it does help in finding the mistakes, but I still do not like the fact that it goes to the first page of the thread, and as the posts are listed in cronological order, you need to go to the last page to see what you posted.

Th threads should be in reverse chronological order, last post first. so one wont have to scroll down and go to the last page.

Nope Roy. This is the best order. Every forum you visit will have it this way.

Yeah it should actually take u to the last page so that you can see your post.

Also we should be able to post polls and each post must have an URL or a anchor as every forum has it.

I have to say that the software or the host this forum is on is very old and outdated..

just a question can anyone (top) a thread or can only Mods do it???
Just asking as for the WCC forum there have been times were i have wanted to do this and haven't known how...

Also i like the idea of anyone being able to do a poll (would also come in handy for the WCC)...
:D :D :D

You're be pleased to know then guys that when the new design is ready there will also be a new amazing forum to release this one with polls, updated U2U, built in Chat Room, etc, etc.

This will probably happen late September.

Quick question: Would there be an option in the new forum that allows you to turn on/off the avatars. They are good, just they my university computers (P133's) can't handle it very well.

No option for that I don't think Paid. In the new forum there will be size(KB) and pixel width/height limits on avatars so that should help.

In the new forum we can set individual moderators to specific forums so that will happen with the World Club Cricket forum for example where you'll be able to edit others posts, top threads, etc.

I am not sure if you understood what I meant. The forum topics (i.e. 'site discussion') and the threads (i.e. 'posting question') within each individual topic are in reverse chronological order, hence the latest appears first, which is perfect. But the posts within each thread are not in reverse chronological order, which they should be.

Im have only been two forums prior to this and both have the individual posts in reverse chr. order, sports.com and worldcrossing.com

BTW, just minor things aside, this is an excellent site, and very well maintained, good work guys.

I don't really agree with that. If someone is new to a thread they don't want to see the latest post first. They want to start from the beginning. Your way is like reading a book from the end to the beginning.

Thanks, we certianly have some great further plans for the site :)

Hmm... I still disagree. First of all, its not new guys accessgin the site most of the time, but people who have already been reading the threads, and who have to scroll to the latest page/post as they are arranged in chronological order.

Secondly, a better analogy would be a resume (not a book), where the last experience (or post) should be the first.

If the book analogy is correct then why not have the same thing for threads (eg posting question).

Maybe it would be asking for too much but it might be even better if the user can select the order (reverse or not) as an option.

dude,
u need to check out more forums. No popular forum ever does it the way u suggest.

Infact why it should be in chronological order is if some one new starts readin the thread he should be able to follow it.

Also in most forums you have the option of starting from the newest post even though it is still is in chronological order.

THe idea is to have more ppl read the thread instead of the same ppl.

You should check out more forums..eg atlasf1.com dailyf1.com fl-live.com
ten-tenths.com
and others...

I checked out worldcrossing.com. Let me tell u ...that is the crappiest forum i have ever seen. It is looks like on of those outdated usenet newsgroups.

Hope this helps

FYI, this is called 'reverse chronoligical order'

If its in chronological order the new people would read it in order, and the existing guys would have to scroll to the end and read the last message.

If its in reverse chro, order, then new people would have to scroll all the way to the end (first message) and then read from there.

The new guys would have all messages available in case if they want to read. But since the messages are more frequenctly read by exisitng members, it would be logical to have what suits the more frequent users.

THe idea is to have more ppl read the thread instead of the same ppl.
Worng. The idea is to make it more easier for the new user. But this is not like a sales pitch, which would birng in new users who would not have come in case there was reverse chronological order ;)

Hmm, is this a little bit of bitterness I sense? Come on its not such a bad site. Actually worldcrossing.com is one of the few sites based on the webcrossing software which is a very high end conferencing software. Check out this link, which lists some of the best sites on the web and worldcrossing was one of them:

http://www.iofficedaily.com/site.htm

Im no specialist on internet chat forums, but its unfair to call worldcrossing.com the 'crappiest forum ever'.

Once again, Im not trying to undermine the awesome work guys have put on this site, but scorpio is bieng a bit of a smartass here and I needed to write what I think.

scorpio

U19 Cricketer
roy u really need to get on the net often. I am not being a smartass..our debates are in no way influencing what i write here..

World crossing is a really crap site , slow and super poor interface.

Have you browsed the old usenet archives ? world crossing almost imitates that.and that is pre 95 style bud.

FYI, this is called 'reverse chronoligical order'
quite smug arent we ? ;)

Being a web designer i really know what reverse "chronological" order means. Most websites use cookies. So when u log back in there is a option where ..umm..lets say there is a post with 100 replies. You may have read up to 70. SO when you log back in it will skip straight to 71 post.

Usually that option will be called "Read the newest post" (in a hyperlink ;))

But the posts will still be in chronological order.

It is anot a sales pitch ...other members who are reading a long thread would find it hard to read from the end to the beginning. ( ever tried running back wards ? it can make u dizzy)
The idea is to let them find out what the thread is abt and continue...while those who have already posted skip straight to the newest post..

Oh and i will never get bitter abt worldcrossing...i heard that some one called salman who also moonlights as RoyGilchrist tried to make it as a replacement for sports.com...but found no takers? :P
( My sources say so..hehe)

I have heard others complain about worldcrossing being slow (never find it slow myself), but I dont know why you call it crap interface, would be interested to know ur specific reasons, and not just rhetoric.

Actually this does make more sense, then what I was saying about reverse chronological order. Have the option of reading only the unread posts (like worldcrossing).

Ur sources are on the money, when we were being kicked out of sports.com, we had decided to go to a common site, I came up with the idea of coming to worldcrossing.com as I have been on the NBA forum for a long time. But as it usually happens, after sports.com people got scattered, some came here, some went to worldcrossing (bigvince, wazza, baq, wrecker, eddie, anil, and a few others). But as that is a new forum hence pretty low on traffic, and this is much nicer as it has already had active members from before. I do not frequent internet as much as u, the cricket forum at worldcrossing was done out of necessity (it was so simple too), but now most people have obviously united here (some notables MIA though), hence there is not much point of the cricket chaos at worldcrossing anymore I guess.

I just got an 'official' last message from luckyEddie too :)
