Who was Sri Lanka's best batsman in Intl' cricket?

For me its one of Sanga,Aravinda,Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardena.Sanga is easily the best test bat out of this lot, however in ODIs his records are bolstered by his heroics in the last 2-3 years of his career.

Aravinda on the other hand was complete opposite of Sanga dominated bowling attacks, when SL was considered a mediocre team, masterminded the 96 Final chase to win the country's only WC.OK -ish test record.

Mahela not the most consistent in Tests but a brilliant record in Tests in SC,with plenty of records to his name.As far as ODIs concerned, not all that consistent,But has the rare double of having a WC SF(2007) and Final (2011) hundreds.

Dilshan a batsman who became exceptionally consistent when he made that huge stride in his career around 2009 to move up the order and play as an opener in all formats.Top scored in 2011 WC,2009 WT20. A 190 odd in Lord's and a test hundred in Australia remains to be his best achievements in Test cricket.

So whats your say? Who was Sri Lanka's best.

Not to forget Jayasuriya,Marvan Atapattu,Thilan Samaraweera but felt the above players ticked most boxes as better bats in all formats

Voted for Sangakkara though De Silva nostalgia is difficult to brush aside. What a marvelous stroke player. And dat helmet.

Good as Sangakara was, he wasn't as good as Michael Bevan. Especially against the short ball.

Anyway, Sri Lanka's best "bat" is the one visible in the Jayasuriya *** tape. Make of that what you will.

It's Sangakkara and it's not close.

Mahela my personal fave, mostly for the kind of hundreds he hit in the short form. Kept his head and crafted innings more than hit them. Rarer event than it should have been though.

Tests: Aravinda
ODIs: Sanath
Aravinda over Sanga seriously? Sanga for me is a top tier test bat along with Lara and SRT.

Aravinda averaged 42 odd or so in Tests, scored a 160 odd in Brisbane I think thats a standout.Don't think he is comparable to Sanga in terms of Test cricket.

in tests Sanga, and by a country mile

in ODIs maybe Aravinda, but Sanga and Mahela good shouts as well.

What is your logic behind rating the likes of Dilshan ahead of Jayasuriya? He pretty much won the 96 world cup single handedly along with Aravinda and on his day he will put pretty much any ODI bowling attack to the sword. He even bowls, is a politician, and stars in cheesy homemade porn flicks. I mean, he does pretty much everything better than Dilshan.

Sanga definitely the best, but given the choice of watching just one I'd go for Aravinda

Honourable mentions for Duleep Mendis and Roy Dias as well
