Reports in that Max Walker has died aged 68. Was an integral part of the Chappell era and WSC, before doing stints on Channel Nine back when they were good and hosting WWOS as well. Of course, mercilessly parodied by Billy Birmingham, and was a good after dinner speaker as well.

One of the great characters.

RIP Tangles.

Noble One

International Vice-Captain
Terrible news. Larger than life character and a such a prominent figure in Australian culture for over 40 years.

Way too young. Underrated bowler, averaged 27 IIRC and was one of the most memorable commentators I've ever heard.

RIP.

The normal awards that everyone else has
Met him twice at local cricket functions. Such a generous and gregarious man.

Sometimes you get the impression ex cricketers do these kinds of things only for cash, but Max absolutely loved people.

When Lillee broke down in the last test in 74-75 and Thomson was already out of the side through injury, Walker pretty much had to carry the entire attack himself. Going for 143 is bucket loads on the face of it, but 42.3 eight ball overs for a paceman is massive in any innings, let alone taking eight wickets with it. That was probably his best performance you'd reckon. It's back breaking just reading it.

RIP, so sad. Only recently watched his Legends of Cricket interview with Robert Craddock where he spoke brilliantly, and had great stories. Such an enthusiastic lover of life.

Max Walker - Ever responsible, and always around for Dennis Lillee and Thomo to make them look good.

Will miss him.

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Rarely gets the credit he deserves when cricketers' facial hair is discussed

First member of that side to depart this mortal coil - very sad news

Says a lot about the sort of man Walker was that making to the top level of two things he tried his hand at were only parts of his life story. Had a lot of World's Most Interesting Man about him outside the arena, one of those guys where you're more likely to celebrate his life than mourn his death, really.

Yeah it's sad isn't it. Time like these, you just have to put keep putting the left foot in front of the right. Then the right foot in front of the left. Then the left then the right then the left again in quick succession.

Listening to The Twelfth Man is becoming more and more bittersweet; first Tony, then Richie, now Max.

Qualified architect, wasn't he? That's enough to be considered quite the Renaissance man nowadays, never mind for a 70s Ocker quick.

RIP. 2016 has just been a **** of a year for deaths.

Midwinter

State Captain
He just seemed like a good bloke.

You always thought that if he turned up at your place one day you would all have a good time.
