Season has started today with Auckland v Afghanistan at Bay oval.
[Apologies if this is posted elsewhere could not find the thread]

Not Terrible
I for one am glad we've finally gotten rid of Canterbury and replaced them with Afghanistan.

I count 12 players each on the scorecard. Pffft, just an open net practice.

Update, the season has not started. This 'match' doesn't actually exist.

I didn't expect that. Our ODI opener and two ODI frontline quicks are in that Auckland team, plus Lord Colin who tucks into crap bowling. Great signs for Afghanistan.

Auckland won the first game by some huge margin, though.

Afghanistan missing quite a few of their big names by the looks of things, and still doing that. Good signs.

I see on Cricinfo that the Afghans were playing in the Asian Cup at the same time?

Yeah that's right.

Dawlat Zadran is handy though, so I guess it's slightly better than Afghanistan's 2nd XI that is on tour here.

.
Our batsmen are not as good as our bowlers, but do have a lot of depth. Nabi (the captain that you saw bowling) is also one of the best batters. He is ranked #8 all rounder in the world. Shenwari is a patient and good batter. Gulbadin Naib is a good batsman with a high strike rate. Similar to Afridi.

Karim, Shahzad, and Taraki are hit and miss. They can easily score a half century in 30 balls or be out in 5.

Our best batsmen, Usman Ghani, Noor Ali Zadran, Asghar Stanikzai, Hashmatullah Shaidi along with some other batting specialists Nasir Jamal, Najeebullah Zadran are unfortunately in New Zealand preparing for WC15. Some of our best bowlers, Shapoor Zadran and Dawlat Zadran are also there with some youngster bowlers Yamin Ahmadzai and Aftab Alam.

Overall, you are looking at the team split down the middle with the all rounders here in South Korea and the specialists in New Zealand.

Cricket: Milne still battling for 100 percent fitness

Adam Milne is still battling to get back to 100 percent fitness.

The Black Caps pace bowler is slowly building up the intensity of his training after having elbow surgery in July.

Milne has been included in a New Zealand XI squad to play warm up one-day matches against Scotland and Ireland next week.

But he says it may be sometime after those matches before his arm is back to normal.

"Just depends how it feels week to week and day to day. I'm hoping the next couple of weeks it will slowly grind out and be back to normal."

The New Zealand XI squad will head to Melbourne tomorrow for a promotional visit ahead of the Cricket World Cup.

Nicol isn't on the same level as the Colins imo, but he might flourish with the extra responsibility of captaincy and his new home ground is good for batting.
