    An Alternate Cricketing Universe

Ever since my dad introduced me to Owzthat, the popular cricket dice game, when I was about ten years old, I have loved it. Over the years, I've developed the game to be more realistic and continue to make tweaks to this day. I have decided to make a series of blog posts about my latest set of...

    Your first live match

Somerset versus Leicestershire. Would have been sometime around 2001. We went up for the second day onwards and saw Devon Malcolm belting sixes over the bowlers heads as he made 50 batting at 11. First international game was a Test at Egbaston against Sri Lanka (2002-ish?) where we bowled them...

    How good is Abdur Rehman?

He was bloody good when he came over to play for Somerset a couple of years ago, unplayable at times. Although when you see him sat in full view on the balcony having a smoke between innings you get a little concerned.

Extremely talented guys you have played with?

I've played against England women's international Heather Knight. She kept the score ticking over but her brother Steve looked the much more dangerous batsman. They chased down our 80-odd without looking like getting out.

    **Official English County Cricket 2013**

Out of interest why is he not popular? Genuine question.

    **Official English County Cricket 2013**

Buttler has shown the ability to knuckle down and play an innings for us this season. He averages 38 in Championship cricket this season compared to Kieswetter's 30, and has just 30 fewer runs in two fewer games. At the beginning of the season Buttler was often the batsman to bat us out of a...

    **Official English County Cricket 2013**

Given a choice between Kieswetter and Buttler to stay long-term I'd dump Kieswetter in an instant and give Buttler the gloves. Kieswetter is such a frustrating batsman who should be nowhere near number five in our batting line-up. His dismissal in the first innings was really poor, he edged one...

    **Official English County Cricket 2013**

At the start of the season our best side would have been: Trescothick Suppiah Compton Hildreth Kieswetter Buttler Trego Thomas Dockerell J. Overton Kirby That side has no problem with experience. Yes, there's a problem with the depth of the experience in the squad but young players like Chris...

*Official* Road to India in England 2014

5 Tests is excellent, but quite how we are able to give 5 Tests to this series and not 5 Tests to South Africa last summer, which was set up as one of the biggest Test Series for some time with the (at the time quite clearly) top two teams in the world is frustrating. For that series to have...

2015 Ashes - English and Australian XIs

For England I'd probably go with Cook (*) Root Trott Bell Ballance Taylor Prior (+) Broad Swann Anderson Overton England are bringing Overton into the fold very early, and he is looking like a player they will take into a lot of squads to mould in a similar way that they did with Steven Finn...

    DoG's Top 100 Test Batsmen - The Top 25

So how come batsmen nowadays don't tend to score lower than in say the 1980s? Computer analysis is just one way in which the game changes, you could just as easily turn that on its head and claim that batting nowadays is much easier due to bigger bats, flatter pitches, more matches etc etc...

ATG ODI XIs- nation by nation

For England I'd probably say: Trescothick Strauss Trott Pietersen Stewart Collingwood Flintoff Swann Broad Anderson Gough

Your favourite commentator (that is not from your own country)?

I think an ideal commentary team would be: Play-by-play: Richie Benaud, Jonathan Agnew, Mark Nicholas and Henry Blowfeld Colour: Mike Atherton, Geff Boycott, Nasser Hussein and Michael Holding Studio: David Gower, Ian Botham and Shane Warne

    **Official English County Cricket 2013**

Lacking in pace as a bowler. Can move the ball around but can't be much over 80mph. As a batsman he can hit the ball but his technique is poor and he isn't particularly flexible. It's just stand and hit.
