The other Steve Smith question - How would you try and get him out ?

If you were fronting up to bowl against Smith what would your plan be ? Given he moves back and across for every ball, it should be simple to devise a strategy that woud exploit that movement. (obviously it is not ) Attack leg stump with fast yorkers ? Bowl just short of a length on...

Compulsory helmets for Fielders within 7m of bat except slips in local cricket

Hello I was reading the local paper the other day and came across this. It is now compulsory for all grades of the local cricket association. The exception is for fielders behind square on the off side, (but i suppose it will come in for that eventually as well). Has this become compulsory...

Has Bowe, Melb Stars, got a Grimmett like action ?

I have read of Clarrie Grimmett having almost a round arm style of bowling leg spin. Watching Liam Bowe of the Melbourne Stars for the first time, despite the fact he is left handed, he has an almost round arm action. Would it be similar to the way Grimmett bowled ? Is there any film of...

The sporting careers of non-famous siblings of famous cricketers

We have all heard of Eric Bedser, Alec's twin, who played years of county cricket without making the English team and more recently Dean Waugh. But I heard recently of Ricky Ponting's brother and I was wondering did he play much cricket ? Which then lead to wondering about Don Bradman's...

    Is S.Marsh the new P.Hughes?

" Australian coach Mickey Arthur has backed Shaun Marsh to re-discover his form, even if the batsman is lacking in confidence at the present time. Marsh has scored just 14 runs from four innings since returning from a serious back injury in the Boxing Day Test against India in Melbourne."...

    How's Frosty's form this year ?

MIcheal Beer has had a solid start to the season. Is he still one of the front runners for the test team this summer ?

Where would you bat Ponting ?

I would have him batting at 5 from the next test. After the glorious purple patch of 2-3 years ago it's time to accept that time has passed. He could go another couple of years playing a more defensive middle order role. If he tries to stay at 3 it could get embarassing.

    The absence of speed

Has this test seen the "slowest" opening bowling attacks of recent years ? Particularly with the Australian's "fast man" Johnson being out. So when was the last time there was a slower opening attack for both sides ? (barring spinfests or injury of course)

    70/71,83/84, mid 90's

End of eras . The first two Australian and the third was the West Indies under Richie Richardson. In each case the difficulty was accepting it at the time and then putting a plan in place for the revival of the team. 70/71 was the installation of Ian Chappell as captain and the building of the...

Has Ponting got the team he wants ?

Have read today of problems between Hauritz and Ponting, so is this team for the first test the team Ricky wants ? Is there anyone he wants who is not in the team ? (BTW this is the same team as the 2009 ashes team if you swap Hauritz for Doherty)

Siddles Hat trick:Did the referral add or detract ?

Interested to hear people's opinions on this. A hatrick is such a unique occurrence, did the fact a decision was referred affect the way you saw it ?

Looking for a story about Archie Jackson

Summers here and the season is in full swing but I have a touch of melancholy occasionally I have read a story about a player lending Archie Jackson a towel and Jackson buying a new one instead of returning the old one. I can't remember where I read it or who wrote it I have searched all...

A good aspect amongst the bad of the referral system

The introduction of technology to make decisions in cricket will ultimately change the nature of the game. The introduction of replays for runouts and stumpings has been the thin end of the wedge and means that performances of players are no longer comparable to those of the pre-techno days...
