158/4 at lunch. Pattinson claims his first test wicket with a contentious LBW decision, tight bowling from England but South Africa will be happy with the mornings progress

    Simon Jones or James Anderson?

Freak balls get set batsman out, which is important. And although Jones' actual bowling is more consistent, he is a liability when it come to injuries.

    Simon Jones or James Anderson?

You have to go for Jimmy when the ball is swinging, he can be unplayable. Otherwise Simon Jones gives you an option with the old ball with his reverse swing. So I would play him in seamer-unfriendly conditions.

What about Charlie Shreck, he owned Lancashire in the last county championship match, He is tall, can swing it away from right handers and has decent pace and accuracy. More than adequate as back up imo.

    practice

It was released after the ashes in 05 so presumably GM thought it would sell a lot with his name on it. The point is its a cheap training ball with a seam.

Monty takes more wickets on english picture than he does in the subcontinent. And dropping him for Harmison is just insulting.

If it was mediocre he wouldn't of scored a hundred. I'd rather he scores at a strike rate of 40 for a long while and holds up an end than get out playing a stupid shot.

First Class Revamp-Series rather than Championships?

County Championship has a packed schedule as it is so this couldn't really be implemented, but in Australia and New Zealand this could work because there is nowhere near as many teams. Don't think the respective cricket boards would be willing to change the current process especially in England...

He needs 18 more runs today to equal Bradman's record of scoring 100 runs in two back to back sessions.

To be fair he isn't the worst part - timer I've seen. He needs to bowl over the wicket though, Smith's captaincy has been so negative. He isn't the greatest tactician. He should give Steyn and Morkel the new ball. It could get smashed all over the park but you have to take a risk to get wickets.

Are streams not allowed or something ? I'm new so I don't really know. On football forum I visit we can link to streams and thats pretty strictly moderated.

Wow, what an innings and it doesn't look like he is going to get out anytime soon. Some of the shots he played against Ntini were incredible to watch.

They can always turn to Ganguly, Sehwag or Tendulkar to bowl some overs if they need a break. All three are capable part time options. Of course they couldn't do all the work but they could take some pressure of the seamers if needed.
