So.... With Oram coming into the side as a specialist batsman, and Mills a certainty to retain his spot after that solid outing, who gets dropped from the XI? Squad: Mcintosh How Flynn Taylor Ryder Oram McCullum Vettori Franklin Patel Mills O Brien Gillespie I'm starting to think to 'wait'...

New Zealand batting have a better than average chance of collapsing for shocking totals in their second dig after gaining some ascendancy in the first. This is not going to be fixed anytime soon, but it is a work in progress...

See you Jamie. Get some form in domestic level and work on improving your techniques before coming back. Welcome Guptill.

Mills needs swing as well, but he's done well with the ball, I'm sure Southee and Martin would have been deadly with the new pill. At least offer less runs than Gillespie

I really hope, with Martin and Southee dropped for this guy, we see him for the last time until Martin or Southee gets injured. What are the selectors smoking?

Might be my imagination but I could've swore I heard one of the selectors mentioning that Gillespie is brought in because he can clean up the tail better than the others in contention.

Players who can't be dropped in test matches

Interesting thoughts guys. I am an unashamedly Vets basher whenever I get the chance. :P But this thread is actually about this... Having read the Kallis' articles posted elsewhere, this is an interesting query (not sure if this has been brought up before, I'm sure it has) .... Name...

....being the operative word when he comes out to bat. I refrained from saying anything about Flynn until he gets past 50. Otherwise, imagine the psychological damage it'll do to his head. Head being another operative word.

When the new appeal the (lack of) decision system takes effect, is the umpire upstairs allowed to use the hotspots?

Good dear god, two centuries from NZ v 1 ton from the English and the later wins. What are the odds, now that NZ won the 1st session of the 1st test match and then stuff it up again later on today. (jinx)

Or South Africa.... Those two countries give us a lot of grief at this stage. Destroy/hurt kiwi batsmen, and ensure that bowlers get dropped after each series.

With Taylor, Ryder, Franklin, Oram to come, I'd be surprised if none of those cashed in tons for the first time from a solid start. Our beefy middle order hasn't yet batted. :)

He can stay there on 0 from 100 balls for all I care. Just don't get out till lunch.

I should say his batting technique should lend itself to playing the drive better than any batsmen in that top 6 IMO. So it's a bit bizarre that's normally how he gets out.
