Which batsman has faced the most number of ATG bowlers?

Atherton faced in tests Marshall, Ambrose, Bishop, Walsh, McGrath, Warne, Donald, Pollock, Waqar, Wasim, Shoaib, Saqlain, Hadlee, Kapil, Kumble, Murali, plus obviously lots of second rank bowlers like Gillespie, Vettori, McDermott, Fanie fe Villiers, Srinath, Streak etc.

*Official* Fifth Test at The Oval

The list of 13 England debutants in that time would actually make a reasonable team. Root Compton Trott Morgan Taylor Bairstow+ Patel Bresnan Shazad Finn Onions 12th man: Tredwell or Carberry

    What was Bradman's favourite shot?

Wasn't he a predominately back foot player? That's unusual as almost all the great batsman of recent times have been front foot players.

Should captains (and coaches) be on selection panels?

I think the captain has to have a say in the selection of the side and also to a lesser extent of touring parties too. If, for example, the selectors impose on a captain a bowler that he just doesn't rate then that has an adverse effect on the match. The skipper then could over rely on the...

***Official*** New Zealand in England series 2013

If Rankin plays in this series for England but is dropped and never selected after, does that mean he won't have enough time to requalify for Ireland before the World Cup?

    Great bowling and batting partnerships

In the thread with top order percentage stats for players I was interested in seeing Jim Laker's stats skew so heavily towards middle and top order players, especially considering he wouldn't have obviously bowled with the new ball. This made me look up his stats when bowling with various other...

Graphs of Wickets by Batting Order for Good Bowlers

Interesting to me is the difference between Laker and Wardle. Considering they played together a lot, it seems that Laker got the batsmen out and Wardle cleaned up the tail. Well obviously not to that simplistic extreme, but it does seem a significant discrepancy in the stats between the two.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

I've been thinking about the terrific performances Cook and Clarke have been putting in since taking over the captaincy verses how usually the captaincy is seen as a burden on player performance. So what would an All-Captain XI, based on player performance when captaining the side, look like...

    Heaven XI vs Earth XI

This was halfway suggested by BoyBrumby in the Ashes subforum. Who would win if you had a match between a Heaven XI (all-time team of players who are sadly departed) against an Earth XI (all-time team of players still alive). My go at picking the sides: Heaven XI Hobbs Hutton Bradman* Hammond...

    All time Ashes XIs

These sides are picked not only on the criteria that each player had to have an excellent record in Ashes contests, but just as importantly that their Ashes only record had to be superior to their overall career record. So these are basically the guys that stepped it up for the urn. Suttcliffe*...

    Australian cricket selection

At the end of the 2000 season, Mark Ramprakash had a career average of 51.24 in domestic FC matches but was a consistent failure at test level. Marcus Trescothick had a domestic FC average of 31.47 and had just made his test debut that summer. Who went on to have the better international career...

**Official** West Indies in England 2012

If he finishes 121* then Broad's batting average will overtake his bowling average.

**Official** West Indies in England 2012

You can hit the ball twice as long as you aren't attempting to score, but you can't hit the ball after a fielder has touched it without permission from the fielding side. If England had appealed Ramdin would have been given out.

    ***Unofficial*** Ireland Discussion Thread

An annual first-class fixture between Ireland and England Lions would be a good addition to the calendar I think. Not sure where the ECB would be able to squeeze it in though.

**Official** West Indies in England 2012

Two more wickets for 16 runs or three more for 47 runs and Broad's career bowling average will drop below 30 for the first time.

It's as if Anderson is bowling with one of those half and half training balls you mess around with in the nets. He's getting such prodigious swing, almost too much.

If you're given out LBW to the spinners, only review if you know you've hit it. It's just too difficult to overturn anything else and you're just wasting reviews.
