Establishing the best decade for cricket: Finding the ATG XI from 12 decades of test cricket - then having a KO tourney to decide the best

The 80's were known for a few things : - W.Indian pace battery - 4 Ace Allrounders - Qadir as the lone spinner holding aloft the art I'm going for Qadir. If Imran is picked as captain or even v.captain, he'll insist on Qadir regardless of what we say

Suggestions for top 30 bowlers countdown

No, I would not. You award points based on difficulty. A batsman facing deliveries is not as difficult as a bowler getting wickets QUICKLY (SR). Every player has to face deliveries. They could very well defend or leave aside deliveries and just hang around. Even tailenders can do this. And...

Suggestions for top 30 bowlers countdown

Yes. What AVG tells is how many runs did a bowler concede to get a wicket combined with SR which tells how quickly did he get that wicket. By getting wickets quickly, you prevent partnerships from developing. AVG and SR should be used for specialist bowlers. ER can be used for batting...

Suggestions for top 30 bowlers countdown

I was keen on finding out which Test bowler has the highest quality of victims (i.e highest Batting average) with a qualification of 200 Test wickets. This is similar thinking along the lines of top-order victims. And the answer was Zaheer Khan

Suggestions for top 30 bowlers countdown

SR is more important in Test bowling cause they have to get 20 wickets in a limited amount of time to win

Suggestions for top 30 bowlers countdown

AWTA. ER has greater value in ODI's, but SR has greater value in Tests FWIW, an article I read many years ago gives equal weight to Test AVG and SR by multiplying the two and taking the square of that

G.Chappell capt Gavaskar/Greenidge V.Richards R.Hadlee/M.Marshall There should be at least 1 specialist spinner for every team - the game calls for it

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current) - Updated

Excellent work, enjoyed that. No need to be disappointed, tweaking and tinkering is part of the process. There will never be a perfect system of ranking anyways. Cheers !

    Time Changes Perception

Botham broke free the shackles of English discipline and process heavy coaching methods that stressed on putting your right foot here and your left arm there. Kapil did so even more with Indian cricket with a joie de vivre that was opposite their constraining cricket. When he breached 400 Test...

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current) - Updated

Partly true – but sooner or later a weak team needs to break out of their defensive mindset and assert themselves if they want to move up the ladder. Beyond a match or series, it is an overarching mentality that boosts a team from constantly being on the ‘backfoot‘ and towards moving into the ‘...

How do fifers and tenfers help to judge a bowler?

5fers and 10fers are match-winning performances, while 100's, 200's could be a result of flat-track roads resulting in draws. Also, the gradual progression towards a 100 is more of a personal milestone, whereas the 5fer does not progress in the same manner - every wkt taken is hard-earned and...

How do fifers and tenfers help to judge a bowler?

Lillee acquired instant acclaim when he burst out on to the Test scene and was considered the best fast bowler taking over from Snow. Many of the other pacers took a while to garner attention, (Imran, McGrath) and started getting noticed only once they breached 200 wkts

Which bowler would you not want to face in park cricket

Roy Gilchrist was a mean scary MF both on and off the field : Gilchrist's Test career might have been longer had he not been sent home halfway through West Indies' 1958–59 tour of the Indian subcontinent after disagreements with captain Gerry Alexander. One cause of this was Gilchrist's...
