Sir Vivian Richards - master or myth?

i'd take that there is no arguments left so here comes a rancid bait.

Sir Vivian Richards - master or myth?

KP was done and dusted after those two innings by Murali and Malinga. Murali at his height of prowess was 50-50 with Shewag (Sidhu played during the time Murali didn't have the doosra), but after 2007 circa, Murali had no chance against Shewag. Warne in his entire career never had a chance...

Sir Vivian Richards - master or myth?

Jadeja is not yet an "elite" spinner. Let's wait till he finishes the career.

Sir Vivian Richards - master or myth?

Shewag knew that his team would wallop anyone at home. Still he got "bored" and got out. :naughty: And yes, Murali was a great fieldsmen. Easily the best among elite spinners.

Sir Vivian Richards - master or myth?

Almost all cricketers rate him with Sidhu as the best ever player of spin to walk on the planet earth. And Yes, it IS a big thing.

*Official* England in Sri Lanka 2021

Roshen Silva is back, and that will give an indication how the pitch is going to play. It is going to spin square, and Roshen is an expert on playing those tracks.

Sir Vivian Richards - master or myth?

Issue is we can say the exact same about Virender Shewag, who incidentally averages very similar to Viv, probably a SR 10 - 15% higher. But Shewag is termed as rash, complacent and throwing it away instead of "bored".

Sir Vivian Richards - master or myth?

This was the downfall of those bowlers. People who didn't try to bounce him off, rather examined his foot work, like Hadlee and Kapil were way more successful.

Sir Vivian Richards - master or myth?

You can add Shewag to that. Viv to fast bowlers were equal to Shewag to Spinners.

Sir Vivian Richards - master or myth?

Viv took on the bowlers who were boasting, who had egos as big as houses. Lillee, Thompson, Hogg, Pascoe, Botham and Malcolm were some of the examples. The ones who didn't get their ego in the way of tactics like Hadlee, Kapil, Chandra and Imran were much more successful than above bowlers...

Best test match number 3 since 1970?

Vas and Murali never were alpha charachters, on or off the field. They were very laid back, calm charachters. Jayasuriya and Ranatunga definitely with all their on and off field antics.

Sir Vivian Richards - master or myth?

Impact and impression will be useful against average sides. If he is playing a ATG XI, the bowlers are not going to get intimidated that easily. Especially the spinners. Viv lost concentration and threw it away many times, which some people call "boredom", but that shows he was short on an...

Chandrashekar for surely. Wasim to some extent, but then Viv was past it.

Best test match number 3 since 1970?

Without gloves Sanga averages 69 at #3. Then there is no comparison with anyone at all.

*Official* Sri Lanka in South Africa 2020/21 Tests

No way without the batting. A middle order of Mathews, Chandimal and DDS may once in a blue moon get us to 500+, but not with this lineup. looking forwards for a easy chase for SAF of about 100.

*Official* Sri Lanka in South Africa 2020/21 Tests

I cannot still fathom out why Dushmantha Chameera was selected for a test. Poor line and length, boasts of no pace as Lahiru Kumara, and is brittle as glass. Given that Shanaka did a very good job at third seamer option, LAsith Embuldeniya or Dilruwan would have at least kept the scoring rate in...

Best of the rest - WI

Walsh is massively underrated. Bowled to a generation of better batsmen than WI of late 70s and early 80s. The monumental thing about Walsh was that he was rarely taken apart by even the best. A thing even Ambrose cannpt boast of.
