A poor first innings, and then a failure to really capitalise on a strong position in the second dig. Ultimately too few runs on that deck. I thought early on it didn’t look like being our day: Rachin dropped Marsh, then Marsh had one trickle back and miss his off stump by a millimetre, then...

Well GP has been involved in just 6 of those tests - including this one in progress - so if the analysis was tightened up to the period since GP came back into the side it would probably show him as surpassing Southee in wicket taking ability.

If you judge a bowler on how they are performing at any given time, and their ability to take wickets, then GP clearly offers more than a couple of the sides ‘bowlers’.

Opening the bowling with Southee and then going to Kruegerline just allows Australia off the hook at one end. Sears and Henry were interviewed last night about how they’d put Australia under pressure, the TV pundits talked about the need for more of the same from ball one this morning, and...

“Marnus being Marnus, what do we need to do?” “We need to get him out” “It’s as simple as that whanau”. Cringe up on the embankment.

Southee is too slow and too predictable. The ball swinging slowly away from a nightwatchman, well outside off stump, poses zero threat.

A shocking review, then a shocking dropped catch. Henry the one bright shining light amongst a group of players who are struggling to do the basics.
