    Murali vs Jacques

Hattie Jacques was a pretty impressive figure. One of those cult heroes of a particular brand of British comedy.

    **Official** English Football Season 2023/24

Great victory for Colchester against Crawley at the weekend. Had been performing reasonably in a tough run of games vs. Mansfield, Wrexham and Stockport with very few points to show for it. A much needed win.

    English Domestic Season 2024

Essex appear to have made hay thus far in their second innings. Still, the way things have been going they don’t necessarily have enough runs yet to feel safe!

I take exception to Big Gus being in the Spud XI.

NZ 23/24 FC Draft - Domestic Selector

I think you've edited your comment here, but not the points for Raval (table still shows O'Donnell with 9 bowling points.)

Ten players you are glad you saw in their prime

Yes! This is why I still love Waqar more than many players who had better overall careers. There was that peak of him - whether the ball was tampered with or not, I don't really care - where he was just bowling such vicious, unstoppable heat. Any bowler that can do that I immediately appreciate...

    Only 3

Unapologetically. I'm afraid in this day of cricket as entertainment rather than pure sport, we're going to need the swashbuckling heroics of Sir Viv instead of the more (comparatively speaking) workaday inevitability of Sir Donald. That, and I completely skipped the first line in the poll and...

    English Domestic Season 2024

Just watched the match highlights of Notts vs. Essex and Khushi did hit some wonderful shots in the game. I think most of them were after the "issue" with his bat, but still, some of his timing was impeccable. Along with a couple of more novel/T20 style shots.

    English Domestic Season 2024

I agree that seems to be the prevailing thinking going on. I just wonder whether people would prefer the faster but more erratic James Anderson of his youth or the highly consistent but slower Anderson of his later years. It's not as if Cook's bowling medium pace. Some of his wickets are...

    English Domestic Season 2024

It would annoy me greatly if Cook’s lack of batting prowess is his limiting factor for international selection. I don’t want the days of Mullally, Tufnell, Giddins for the tail, but I think we should be able to afford someone who can probably average around 10 with the bat if the bowling is...

    2024 Ranking of Batsmen Poll

If, in the fullness of astrological time I get to meet my grandfather who fought at the Somme, I shall let him know that I am the braver man as I was there - the day that I voted for a cricketer who was still playing the game. Williamson Smith Kallis

As an Essex fan, I have zero sympathy too. It’s hard to fathom how this can actually happen!

    English Domestic Season 2024

My concern is that Surrey come to sign him with a promise of international honours if England keep ignoring him. Not that England honours stopped Dan Lawrence from following that overworn path.

    English Domestic Season 2024

Sam Cook - WAG. Hard to believe that he hasn’t had a gig for England yet - though perhaps he might more be seen as a replacement for the evergreen Anderson who shows little sign of retirement!

    2023–24 NZ women's summer

So much of a difference between Sophie Devine and the quality of the next best batsman, she really does make a huge difference when in the team. Really going to need her and Bates to keep going into their 50s if we can't produce some decent batting options soon.

Eeeeh. Pretty significant penalty. Not a great way to start the season!

    English Domestic Season 2024

Something odd in the reports of the Notts/Essex match that Khushi had a bat that was over regulation size. Anyone know what likely penalty might result from that? Not one I've come across before.
