England players and selection discussion thread

If that happens it’ll just make England fielding the strongest fielding unit, including best keeper, all the more important.

England players and selection discussion thread

Very disappointing. I feel that the success of England’s approach over the last year has been built as much, if not more, on their aggressive approach in the field as their batting. Their batting has often set games up, but when that approach is built around “taking the draw out of the...

Is Jadeja the most underrated cricketer going?

Isn't the fundamental problem with any assessment of Jadeja, particularly when incorporating his stats, that he has never appeared to be an automatic pick in the India side. If a player is only being picked when conditions are perceived as suiting their game, then it is inevitably going to skew...

    *Official* England in NZ 2023

Must be great for the local economy as well.

    *Official* England in NZ 2023

I would like to think not. My theory of Bazball is that the approach in the field is woefully underplayed/overlooked by commentators and fans alike. A big part of it is prioritising taking wickets above all and that goes hand in hand with having the best keeper in the team.

    *Official* England in NZ 2023

Stokes will declare ridiculously early and unjustiably to exploit the lights. New Zealand will prove that decision utterly ludicrous…. And will lose by 30 runs after a late collapse.

Australia & England Denied to Play warm up matches in Asia

You would have thought given how often test matches are one sided in favour of home teams these days (and in Aus in particular that also equates to short matches) that cricket boards would see it in their interests to have well prepared touring teams. But obviously not. Winning is all that...

England test tour of Pakistan December 2022

Any team bowling repeatedly negatively is not adopting “Bazball”. Ultra aggressive bowling to get 20 wickets is at the core of the philosophy.

England test tour of Pakistan December 2022

There’s a fundamental difference between little FC experience and little *recent* FC experience. Only one is a known and fully developed option. Talk of pigeon holing Ahmed now is to ignore the massive capacity for improvement. The problem will be managing how that happens, given the...

    Bairstow or Brook?

IMO to truly understand “Bazball” you have to understand that it stands or falls on ability to take 20 wickets. It’s not actually about the batting which is what many (/most) people focus on. England’s success in limited overs cricket has been built on “whatever you score (within the allocated...

Not a record - but is this correct? Aus-Sa Brisbane shortest decisive test (balls bowled) since 1935?

Wonder if that would have been given without the lights on the bails?

Although would hope it won’t encourage more pitches like this. Test boards looking to guarantee 5 days safe in the knowledge they might not be criticised for putting money over entertainment…

    Or maybe not, lol.

Maybe Anderson just fancied a rest. At the end of the day England have just spent two days in the field and only had a break for a session.

It’s seems to me that there’s an indirect problem with this approach by England. It’s not that such an approach can’t be admired in many respects. It is that it will encourage opposing sides in future to deliberately prepare pitches like this on the basis that England will take enormous risks...
