What happened to big spinners of the ball?

I dont recall Chandana being a big turner, unless I'm mixing up in my head with Asoka de Silva, who was the king of the straight leg rollers.

What happened to big spinners of the ball?

This is the obvious answer. Surprised it has taken until the second page. Big spinning deliveries miss the stumps. Spinners bowl quicker and at the stumps/pads.

BTW, that NZ U19 team named. Will play in a qualifying tournament in Darwin in June. "The squad will join Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Vanuatu in the qualifying pool, with the top team qualifying for the World Cup."

One thing I will say - as shown by the example of "The Hero of Bombay" Ajaz Patel replacing 'no-name chucker' Mathew Khunemann at Durham only after the no-name was injured. Is that the vast majority of NZ cricketers need the blackcaps as both a shop window and a here-and-now income.

To pose the other side, though. How much extra would a Will Young or Henry Shipley's NZC contracts be worth with approximately six-to-ten 32 to 36 year olds off NZCs central contracting books? Or, if talking from a playing side and meaning these 2 examples also opted to turn down central...

I think I pretty much agree, and that a player of Boult's status would be worth 'risking'. But, I think he will start losing that >4 overs resilience. Picking him at Mt Maunganui this summer when it was only 6 months since his last red ball game. would have been no risk, pretty standard in...

I think some of you are a bit too fundamentalist about central contracting and what it means, or should mean. NZC are not trying to protect a profitable domestic structure, like the NZRU (well, formerly profitable ...) Central contracts came about as a result of a threatened player strike. Not...

Yeah, nah. As Hutt Rec says. For the Rugby World Cup, who do their draw notoriously early (to cater for/ cash in on the tour packages market). With the downside being the seeding and the rankings get out of whack 3 years later when the tournament actually happens. But if you like 'groups of...

    Question on ban announcements

GSK is 100% a banned former poster pretending to be an Indian with bad English, to grind mods gears for kicks, presumably.

Same. Seems a fake to me , who probably knows a lot about the workings and processes of this site.

*Official * Pakistan vs New Zealand 2023

I'm all for rotation in JAMODIs. But the counter point to your 'since 2016' point is that the white ball team has made 2 finals, semifinals etc. So, maybe if you 'have the generation ' you also need to play them if you want to take advantage of that. In that time you mention since 2016: Henry...

    Australia's Test fast bowling depth

I watched the daily highlights of the Sheffield Shield final (I think it was that game) about a month ago. Got to say I was a little underwhelmed at my first sighting of Lance Morris. After hearing about him first on here just a few weeks before in The Ind v Aus tour thread, and people wanting...

Makes me realise I've never actually seen a game of IPL ever in my life. Saw news clips of McCullum 100 in first with a gold helmet. I think that's all I've ever seen. I'm not interested in any foreign franchise T20 cricket. Watch about 10% of the super smash plus some internationals...

Not many, if any, of those selected statistically stood out that played in the U19s tournament this year, but some dominant players statistically from the U17s. Selection will be based on a mix of players from the U19s and U17s, depending on their ages at time of next U19 world cup, I assume...
