Very nice from Will Young. While his test game has had its disappointments and he is now stuck behind Nicholls again for the foreseeable future, ODIs could be his niche. Has a great List A record too, fwiw. Probably still the perennial curse of being stuck just outside the first choice top 6...

Jeez those are some good figures from Matt Henry. Please to see Shipley continue to pick up wickets too.

Wow that's an exceptional hundred, a shame I missed it live. Last I saw CD were about 60/4 and noone had been able to hit it off the square on a slightly difficult wicket. Clarkson must have batted on a different pitch.

Bit of er Andrew Ellis in McKenzie here.

McConchie one of those diligent but limited players you'd expect might be successful through the middle overs of 50 over cricket, but his List A record is awful. Averages just 26. Decent recovery job today even if you'd prefer he had another 10-15 runs from the 82 balls he's faced. Clarkson WAG.

Rain disappointing, as there are few things funnier in cricket than seeing hot-climate players rugged up and absolutely hating life when they field on a cold day in Dunedin or Christchurch or Wellington .

When I first saw Clarkson bowl years ago he bowled lovely outswingers and looked like he had plenty of potential. Then he had several injuries and his medium pace became highly smashable cannon fodder for several seasons, when he was fit enough to bowl it. But kudos to him today, no great pace...

Both Ajaz and Lennox very tough to get away. Canterbury can't risk trying to force the pace any more either, as one more wicket and they're into the allrounders.

Clarkson just wanders up and bowls a ripper, just nipped in slightly I think.

    2022-2023 New Zealand First-Class Draft

Great season for Popli after he spent several years not living up to the level he set back near the start of his career (I checked and it was way back in 15-16 with 1149 at 67). I'd noted in the domestic thread that both Cleaver and Seifert were having poor PS seasons but forgot they were both...

Ford Trophy always the unloved cousin of domestic cricket but I just flicked this on via Youtube and it's good. Not sure who the comms are but they're not too bad.

Glorious straight six from Young. He certainly passes the eye test.

Ball clipping the stump there distracted from how dreadfully Allen was squared up. Looks roady, should be a big score.

It's CDG, then Mitchell and now they're trying Macewell in this category. Blundell and Nicholls don't really fit here.

Could be NZ's answer to young Shaun Marsh, still showing frustrating intermittent glimpses of potential at 35.

TBF Phillips was dropped twice in that 50 iirc. But generally agree his recent FC form has been very good, if anything he's perhaps found it too easy in PS to biff bowlers everywhere before getting out for 70. Good that he made sure to register a hundred last week to show he can do it. This is...

I think the earlier posts that Nicholls shouldn't be replaced because the next guy tried (Young) might not succeed are imposing far too high a threshold on whether you replace someone. Two questions should be asked 1 - Is the incumbent's output enough? No, it's nowhere near for the last several...
