De Grandhomme retires from international cricket

A really good player, and I will miss him. The comparison to Grant Elliott is a good one though. I don’t think de Grandhomme would have done nearly as well if he wasn’t playing in a New Zealand team with an ATG top order.

    Heath Davis

Yeah, she may not have used that exact wording - but that is how I heard it!

Lol! My wife told me that I seem to have aged over the last year, so I reckon that someone must be messing with that painting!

    Heath Davis

Also, as a follow-up, I had a chat to my sister about Heath last night. She was in the same classes as him at school (I was a year older) and she reminded me about what a smiley happy kid he was. And she was right. I think my experiences with him in the nets and on the park obscured that memory...

    Heath Davis

I am not trying to be reductive, but I talked about this with a non-binary friend of the same age today, and he felt Heath’s behaviour really reflected his own lived experience. In summary, my friend said he was a real dick as a young guy - and that this dickish behaviour wasn’t about being gay...

    Heath Davis

That doco and article were really a revelation to me. I was at school with Heath, and we played cricket for the same club. “Different” is exactly how I thought of him. He always seemed to swing between outrageous and completely absent. Like at club functions he would make a short very loud and...

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

That is a really good article, thanks for posting it. Apart from boosting Will Williams (who, for me, looks too condition-dependent to succeed at the top level) - I pretty much agree with every point the author makes.

    Greatest Wicketless Spells

New Zealand’s first ever win in England (in 1983) involved superb bowling from Richard Hadlee who somehow ended up with innings figures of 0-44 and 0-45.

*Official* Ross Taylor's last series memorial thread

Jesus, I hope Scotty Stevenson isn‘t still commentating at the end of Ross’ last innings. I could not bear to listen to the inevitable endless replays of his final walk off the field.

*Official* Ross Taylor's last series memorial thread

I dunno. Between the radar showing Tickner bowling at 145kmph, showing Jamieson bowling at 145kmph, and with reference to Jamieson’s previous pace readings - I reckon the real issue is that the speedgun needs someone with a screwdriver to do a bit of recalibrating.

Up around 145 kmph at his quickest. Much faster than I would have guessed based on watching him previously.

Gee, I like young Keene’s bowling action.

What was the lowest point for your cricket team?

My old club side once got bowled out for 4 in a 2-day match. It was a train wreck. I remember getting back to the club rooms at the end of the day and someone asking how our day had gone, and as I tried to find the words our fast bowler replied “pretty good, I got 6 wickets”.

What was the lowest point for your cricket team?

The whole of New Zealand Cricket’s centennial in 1994/5 was awful. But for a one-off low point I can’t go past New Zealand in Pakistan in 2002: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/new-zealand-tour-of-pakistan-2002-62114/pakistan-vs-new-zealand-1st-test-63989/full-scorecard

Gosh Blundell plays some beautiful shots.

Williamson still injured, while Boult is off watching his wife give birth. Not something I would recommend from personal experience.

I watched some of the SA vs India tests and thought Jansen looked an outstanding prospect. He seems to have lost a lot of energy (and pace) since that series, so I wonder if he is a bit out of sorts?

*Official* South Africa in New Zealand 2022

Mitchell has done well in his test career so far, but he is not a number 5. And with Nicholls struggling that top order gives me the shivers.

***Official New Zealand Domestic Season 2021/22***

He seemed a great character, but used to annoy the piss out of me when commenting on live cricket because he never used names and described things in a way that made it impossible to figure out what the **** was going on until everything was over. It was like he was commenting only for people...

***Official New Zealand Domestic Season 2021/22***

Chapman out for 97, which is disappointing. I am not a huge watcher of his, but he previously struck me as a guy who didn’t play a good pull shot - but he played some really lovely ones today.
