    Australian domestic season 2021/22

Why would that be sarcastic? Those dismissals are absolutely down to him not being able to middle the straight ones. "Straight" doesn't always mean literally "hitting the stumps". Sure the umpiring is exacerbating it but it's the issue he has that's putting him at the mercy of the umpires. He...

    Australian domestic season 2021/22

Even if they were bad decisions, still reinforces the worry re. Green and lbws. He needs to find a way to stop missing (and start middling) these straight balls

Mark Waugh vs Aravinda de Silva

He played for NZ not Aus

Yeah, nah would have been 2-0 going into Perth if not for rain anyway

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Mate cut us some slack most of our parents weren't even born back then

    2nd greatest living cricketer

Only robbing that happened in Perth was Warne's maiden Test century when he was dismissed by a massive uncalled front-foot no-ball.

    2nd greatest living cricketer

Wasn't SA still pretty good for fast bowlers during that period though disagree. The lack of other ATG fast bowlers might have had some influence but it wasn't at all the major reason for batting being easier worldwide. You could also have the cause & effect backwards.

Mark Waugh vs Aravinda de Silva

Agree. If the perception of a player is that they were really great against the best bowlers it's tempting to overrate them based purely on that, even if they weren't actually that great overall. Extreme example would be Ashraful. Played some incredible knocks against good opposition but on...

Mark Waugh vs Aravinda de Silva

You guys need to keep in mind you're talking to Migara about a Sri Lankan player. However I've been very interested to hear his, and others', perspectives. Wherever you land on the ratings it seems like Aravinda was one of those guys that looked a lot better than stats suggest.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Not when you add them all together

Cricket related stuff that doesn't really deserve a thread

there's been doubt ever since the brief but exalted career of one Adam Voges

lol this isn't the gotcha post you think it is. I've literally said basically that already in this exact thread:

    4 & 5

No proper cricket wicket should need a specialist second spinner

    2nd greatest living cricketer

I didn't say it never happens, just rarely. And that example doesn't really mean a whole lot in this context because it's only one side of the coin. In the very same game Steyn made extra runs, a slightly better bowler could have taken an extra wicket that saved even more runs. Of course he...

    2nd greatest living cricketer

As I've stated before, if you consider Hadlee and McGrath equal as bowlers then it's not even a relevant discussion. It's only relevant if you're picking someone who you consider a worse bowler (even if incredibly slightly) because they are are a bit better at batting.
  16. TheJediBrah

Mark Waugh vs Aravinda de Silva

Kind of demonstrates that Waugh played stronger opposition doesn't it?
  17. TheJediBrah

    2nd greatest living cricketer

Don't think this could be much more wrong. *IMO, of course
  18. TheJediBrah

    2nd greatest living cricketer

Yeah it's really not that hard, not sure what people have such a hard time understanding about it. Batting ability of no. 10/11 decide Test matches, like never. Unless you genuinely think 2 options are virtually absolutely equal as bowlers then picking one because they are better at batting is...

    4 & 5

This seems right. Can't see fitting Sachin in and Smith is a GOAT slip and far superior fielder anywhere.
