    And the winner is....

    The big fella:

Worthy winner for mine. Sure there's been more talented ball players, but Jonah's talent transcended the sport. It's a shame his career was so truncated by his kidney problems.

Thanks to all who voted in the battles.

"as much a news event as an actual footballer, a worthy stop-start centre forward, but an all-time hyper-galactico when it comes to doing funny things with cars and hats, a player whose signing proves once again that the Premier League is still undoubtedly the best in the world when it comes to doing things with cars and hats."

For all the New Zealanders who saw Michael Jones in the 1987 World Cup:

What does Jonah have over Michael Jones?

Might sound irrelevant, but I thought the person who won this should have at least won a world cup. I think there's a couple of cases better than Jonah's...

Jonah's WC performances in '95 and '99, particularly his 4 try effort over England in '95, took playing rugby to another level. He introduced a new world to the game when his feats were shown on sports news's in countries that didn't usually follow the game. When I was travelling through Brazil a Brazilian guy asked me where I was from. When I told him NZ he immediately said "ah, Jonah Lomu". He didn't know the name of any other rugby player. Never before had a player that size been so fast and destructive and we haven't seen one since.

Michael Jones was a far greater player than Lomu, but Lomu was a Superstar and so he won this poll. Simple really.

Probably fair enough. It's easier for the non-union fan to appreciate Lomu's talent than Jones's tho. Given it's such a specialised sport in a lot of positions it is hard to separate players on anything other than gut instinct because you aren't comparing like for like.

Think "far greater" is a bit of an exaggeration tho, good as Jones was.

Joens usually gets rated as one of the best All Blacks ever in NZ. As high as #3 on a list they did toward the end of the 90s.
