The way the Jaguares are playing in Super Rugby, full expect Argentina to qualify in place of either France or England.

Argentina often punches above its weight at RWCs (eg they made the 2007 Semi-Finals and NZ didn't) and the Jaguares deservedly beat the Chiefs this morning, so that wouldn't surprise me at all. Would prefer them to eliminate France, as we usually struggle against the unpredictable buggers in knock-out games.

Very true. Argentina certainly far from being easy-beats now. You wouldn't even put it past Tonga sneaking a win over the French if they have a particularly bad day.

I think Argentina's struggles in the Rugby Championship are inevitable consequence of the huge distances they have to travel. With that in mind, it's not terribly surprising that they always seem to 'peak' for World Cup years. If they can keep their squad reasonably fit, I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the semis again.

I realise I'm holding myself as a hostage to fortune here, but I'm pretty confident we'll beat the Argies. Our second string (minus about 17 Lions) beat them 2-0 in Argentina in 2017.

Argentina are not a national side that competes in super rugby, they are a super rugby team that has to compete in internationals. Some of the best Argentinian players will never wear national colours again because they’ve taken the Euro.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the quarter finals but France should be more worried than England, I think.

france are terrible. i watched them play italy when i was over there and only incompetence (italy knocked it on over the try line) saved france from humiliation, and both sides were awful.

it would have been especially satisfying had they lost because the parents of one of the french players were staying in the same small hotel as me and they were obnoxious snobby ****s. i made sure to drop in conversation i was a rugby fan in a strong kiwi accent.
    Proudly supporting Central Districts

Nah, Argentina back to picking Europe-based players without restrictions this year:

I do hope the French make a come back. Rugby feels way more like just another imperial British pastime without them in the KO stages of the World Cup. Their U20 side recently won back to back world championships, so hopefully that's a sign that they'll be back to genuine contenders status by 2023.

The Rising Sons series - basically an England tour diary - on youtube has been quite good. Surprising amount of content.
