*Official* New Zealand domestic season 2022/23

Chance in the CD v Wellington game for one of those high fourth innings chases that've become more common. CD were looking good until Young dismissed just now. Enough batting in the CD tail of D Bracewell, Ajaz, Randall, Toole, Dudding to score the 114 needed on a good day imo.

Pleased to see Will Young make a century - shows that he's still able to cash in if he gets past the new ball (which he's usually unable to). Would bode well for NZ picking him in the test team at 4 or 5, if they wanted to reconsider that.

They probably just think Somerville should be there instead of him, though I don't know for sure.
I wouldn't fully rule out focus on study and exams at this time of year for Ashok. But yeah if not that, Pakistan away is a tour Somerville's enjoyed in the past.

Also, a lot of these South African coaches could be just using New Zealand more to bolster their own CV with low-ceiling routes to success, rather than really caring too much about whether NZ is poised for a steep fall on the rankings charts.

I thought immediately that 260 off 60 overs on a day 4 Uni Oval pitch was remarkably generous. ND looking well on track at the moment.

Long con by Tim Seifert pretending to be no good at batting only to blitz this chase.

Also, disappointing Worker and Keene were able to arrest Auckland's slide and bat out the day vs Canterbury (who get support for having a more interesting bowling attack than Auckland).

Tama Canning was also the last Auckland player to turn up after play had started,in a taxi with his trotting around gear still on. Don't imagine Robbie O will eclipse that notable feat
I remember thinking when he came across from Australia that he might quickly slot into the Black Caps. I think at one point early on he was picked but had some visa issue so Oram or Franklin came in. Andre Adams also overtook him. He did get picked for some ODI's in Pakistan and apparently Akhtar took him for a night out as they had a mutual friend.

Gutsy and traditional Test cricket could be on in the week between Christmas and the new year. That one is out of NZC's control and in the hands of the fanatics and extremists.

True, but there is still the BDT between Oz and SA (go you Saffas), then our tests in Pakistan (8 hours behind), throw in random SuperSmash on TV1/Duke (don't have Spark) - haven't checked schedule if any games to attend, and some BYC with kids, family, mates etc shouldn't be too bad.

I find this T20 and ODI series vs India really weird though.

First game today, Wellington v Canterbury.

Professional debut for Matt Boyle, opening the batting in half an hour. Lauchie Johns back again for, this time as a specialist bat. Only six bowling options for Wellington, must've made a mistake in selection.

Georgeson bowling 10 overs on the trot from the 11th to the 30th is interesting. He's a handy cricketer, I guess. Meant a late introduction for Younghusband and no overs thus far for Rachin.
