Insanity.

In the history of Test cricket, has there been anything to rival what Bairstow has done over the last three Tests, or more specifically five innings'? Four centuries and another 70 not out, all of his fourth innings knocks match-winning ones, scored at a rate of knots, and if you want to throw it in for context, there was the common view he shouldn't be in the side at the start of the year, and even after Lord's four weeks ago.

Someone said in the NZ thread it's the batting equivalent of when Mitchell Johnson against all popular opinion got back in the Australia team for the 13-14 season and just blew everyone away

There's something more to B. Mccullum than just catchy buzzwords, well done! Whatever he put in those gatorade bottles for the england boys, is working. Send him over to NZ right quick!

Also worth remembering that Bairstow started the summer getting bowled for 1 by Boult and then bowled through the gate just like always by Jamieson for 16. By rights his confidence should have been in absolute tatters after that. Makes the subsequent turnaround even more impressive.

Haha yeah he definitely still deserved his place based on his tons in Aus and WI but it seemed really inevitable at that point but that he'd be out of the team again by the end of the summer.

Losing a test match isn't the end of the world but they are few positives for India to take from that bar a super partnership with Ravi and Pant.

Bumrah and Rahul both have captained India and neither have hugely impressed.

Kohli isn't done, but he is declining and I don't know about Vihari. The first class numbers are superb, but he just seems like a middling bat so far.

Early days on Gill and Iyer, but the latter I fear for outside Asia going forward.

Yeah it's clearly PEDs, just like I've been saying.

I’ve had some time to think about this.

If Australia or India did this at home it probably wouldn’t be as big a deal. In fact they rarely get to chase such targets because the opposition is just not good enough to set them. They do other forms of humiliation like Nair 300 or Head mots.

Those teams tend to dominate throughout the entire teat match, whereas this baz led England go toe to toe with the opposition and then pull away in the final leg.

Therefore I can only conclude that these wins are only very special because England are in fact not very good.

Come to India then we’ll see

Has Michael Vaughan claimed ownership of the turnaround in form after he called Bairstow a disgrace (or something similar) at Lord's? Seems like something he'd do
