Gotta feel for the lad, but he got gifted something many thousands of better cricketers never did. The last time we’ll be seeing Dom Bess the Test cricketer I suspect.

Been impressed by lawrence this game so far, hasn't been amazing but he looks like he's improving with every innings in these conditions, unlike every other player for england sans root.

Their 3rd best batsman is an average wicketkeeper who went home after the 1st test.
nah i rate pope and sibley, even with some of the comedy dismissals. there's something to work with there.

keep burns away from twitter and he might rediscover his ability to be better than he looks too.

bairstow is obv toast (or fried bread if you're a dum dum) but we knew that already

yea true, buttlers statistics are acceptable for a wicketkeeper batsman. they're not in the running for any world elevens but an average of 34 is fine for a #7. he would have copped less heat if he wasn't so ridiculously good in other formats and england didn't insist on batting in him the top six or as a specialist bat at times.
In a weird way I kind of feel there's more expectation on our lower-middle order and hence Buttler/whoever might replace him in any given match due to our top order being so poor. What I mean is we've basically accepted that our top 3 don't generally make runs since it's been the case for ages, but our lower order bailing us out has been a thing, so sometimes people redirect the blame to them when it doesn't happen

Part of the frustration from an England pov is being made to look like complete muppets buy a bowler that we'd not heard of before the series. For all we know, Axar may go on to have a stellar career and take 500 test wickets, in which case we'll look back at this like we do at Warne's 1993 Ashes exploits. But for the moment you just wonder why they can't do better against him.

This is the most one sided cricket I have seen for a long time. There is not even a fight.
This actually hurts far less that other bad (but probably not as bad as this) performance in recent memory have. I guess I'm finally desensitised

yeah, it's common for keeper bats and allrounders to cop the extra flak actually. i think it's set up because most average between 30 and 40 which for a specialist batsman is a bit dangerous depending on era/role/team strength but for a keeper or allrounder is fine to very, very good.

your keeper or allrounder is rarely one of the best batsmen in the team but will sometimes play like he is, but the range of his innings quality is usually a lot wider. if he comes in during a collapse then fans are already pretty disappointed in what they're watching so if he gets out in a spuddy way he can be the one who tips the fan over the edge of frustration and gets singled out when the real problem lies in the top 5.

Pant or Axar for MOTM?

Pant took a losing situation to a winning one, but Axar's numbers so far are immense.

Has to be either Ashwin or Axar.
Yeah, but they are bowling at a bunch of complete tossers against decent spin. Pant for me; he had to actually break into a sweat.
