Not when everyone ignores Y and only focusses on X, especially when Y actually applies much more than X. Prefabricated thinking is never a good idea.
But Y is basically a given, isn't it? We all know intelligence doesn't have anything to do with race. So why would it be brought up except to make a facile point?

I mean intellect in a sporting sense, i.e. the "mental" and "disciplined" sides of the game, as well as technical skill. The Yaya Toure example that I brought up is a good example; lots of chatter about how powerful and athletic he was, not anywhere near as much that he was an exceptionally skilful and creative player too.

Someone actually did a study on it recently: ‘Intelligent’ or ‘Strong’: Study Finds Bias in Soccer Broadcasts - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

Article on news.crap about Hayden talking about how you need to play straight here and how Harris didn't.

He's not the only one who didn't take that advice.

From his first 30 test innings, Labuschagne has reached fifty 15 times. He's also been dismissed in the 40s four times.

To put this into perspective, Bradman also passed fifty 15 times in his first 30 test innings

Christ this run of boundaries off Shardul's bowling. Labuschagne is going to do Clarke 300 repeat here. And they dropped him twice! Ugh.

In cricket? no way lol
Yeah you do. You need incredible hand eye coordination to be a batter or keeper and you need to be a genetic freak to bowl pace well. You need freakish fingers and wrists to bowl spin well.

Every professional sports person has something freakish going on with their body.
