Hope Kohli is right but would have bowled Sundar out and held Chahal a back a tad - its worked to get QdK out but just fear they may see Chahal out somewhat and latch on the rest of the bowling - and Kohli has seemed reluctant to bowl Sundar in the latter half of the innings.

Great game.

6 off 3 and he bangs it in without a fine leg. Poor from Bumrah and his captain. Hard task to defend 7 but he had a chance before that tactical error. You’d back him to defend 6 off 3 with yorkers.

Don’t really favour a certain team in IPL but was hoping Pollard would get his side over the line after the innings he played

What a good game, pollard is still an absolute monster. I don't think rcb "deserved" to win after all the fielding **** ups they made but that's life.

It looked like he was trying to prove a point to AB after getting his half-tracker smacked all over in regulation time.

Did they make that many? Negi dropped a crucial catch (after 2 very good catches before) Gurkeerats miss wasn't a sitter but have to say I thought we had that game lost with 2 overs to go

Kohli is such a dork on the field though. He can drop all the catches he wants but he's never shy of going ballistic when someone else goofs up. Pathetic for a captain.

true to an extent but he’s a proper leader imo

put himself at long off after the misfield in the super over

opened the batting in the super over despite not being in nick

takes immense self belief for that, respect

Whatever it takes!!!
He is a great leader but tactically, esp. in the LO formats, still a very immature captain.

And his ego getting in the way of accepting players can improve or players he does not rate can be good etc. is now becoming very very annoying.

Too early to call trends but my pick in one of our Fantasy League whatsapp groups is that DC will top the league tables. I expect RCB to do better as the tournament goes on IF Virat can pick up that he is wasting one of the best IPL bowlers in Sundar. MI might struggle due to their spinners.
TBF, if not for Negi missing the simplest of catches, RCB would have won this bowling out MI for like 160 or 170. Also coz Virat does not want to use Dube who seems to be a bit of a specialist slog overs bowler. You just cant bowl a spinner at Pollard and hope to get away unless they are peak Ajmal or something.

I think they should just do what I thought would be best for them long before today’s game…

The other option they have, of course, is to get in Isuru Udana to play the Chris Morris role of late order hitter but use him in the middle overs and save Saini for the back end.

To me, the best bet for RCB is to look at the T20 bowling inning as 3 different sections to be controlled by 3 different sets of bowlers.

Powerplay - Umesh and Sundar - Look for swing and early wickets with Umesh, control the hitting and get a lot of dot balls with Sundar.
Middle overs - Udana and Chahal - Attack with Chahal, defend with Udana - take you through to 13/14.
Slog - Saini and Dube - Hard length at pace mixed with yorkers and bouncers with Saini, variations of slower balls at different lengths with Dube.

And maybe get in Moeen for Philippe and maybe Parthiv for Padikkal if AB does not wanna keep. Parthiv/Padikkal to go bang at the top with Finch, Moeen to bat 5 and arrest any slide if that happens. Issue is Moeen's all or nothing batting in T20s but it maybe worth the risk. Or continue to show faith in Philippe and expect him to get good at #6 splitting the left handers Dube and Sundar.

I don't actually mind how they approached things - I'd have done similar tbh - I don't think Dube is a sustainable death bowling option - vs SRH think it was more a case of poor batting then us being sensational although happy we closed out the game nonetheless. Looking at the balls he bowled in that much - 1 ball to Bairstow, 7 to Garg, 2 to Abhisek Sharma, 2 to Rashid Khan, 1 to Mitchell Marsh on one leg, 2 to Sandeep Sharma and 3 to Natarajan. Far lower quality players minus Bairstow with the bat then Kishan and Pollard. Dube then goes for 6 in fifth last over v KXIP, credit to him for that taking the wicket of Maxwell but then goes for 23 off the final over.

I know it didn't really end up working but I liked holding overs of wrist spin back, Mumbai have been able to pull off heists like this before against us - and its easy to think play out Chahal and the feist on the relatively poor seam bowling - with Chahal we had variety and a matchup that Pollard has generally struggled a bit against. Zampa's over got torn apart but if Negi takes the catch, the narrative becomes great captaincy holding overs of legspin back.

Despite the late collapse I quite like the balance of the bowling - if Morris is fit next game probably would put him in for Zampa and then maybe swap one of Udana/Morris for Zampa later in the tournament when playing on used, potentially heavily worn pitches. Morris also strengthens the batting and gives us decent depth with some combination of Dube/Morris/Udana at 6/7/8. Although might also have to bring in Phillipe if ABDV isn't able to keep for all of the IPL...

Udana is a good fit instead of Steyn till they get Morris back. Not sure about Zampa. I think they should get Umesh back as he can still be tough to score off in the power plays if he concentrates on his strengths and finds his outswing. Can get in Moeen for Gurkeerat too as it will help them with one more spin option for the middle overs as well as back up in case Sundar is hit during PP. And can provide good slogging down the order even if his batting is pretty much shot at this point.
