Canoeist Wins Togo's First Medal

Nice scenes at the canoeing as Benjamin Boukpeti takes the bronze for the small African country of Togo, his country's first olympic medal. He was born and took up canoeing in France, but both his parents were from Togo and he choose to represent them. He was actually in the lead going into the last run, but he was still ecstatic, breaking his paddle in two in celebration. It's what the Olympics are about.

It's an awesome thing to make an entire country proud, and this guy just did it.

Ah. Yeah, whitewater rafting facilities in Togo would be somewhat lacking.

Still, fine effort. Lost it with three gates to go or something. Grim. Watched it with 20 minutes tape delay, glad I didn't visit CW now.

(oh, and I think he's a kayakist )

That was brilliant! Celebrated it so violently he broke his paddle. Fantastic.

Somehow I doubt he would agree

He will never be forgotten because of it.
