Olympic Basketball Thread
Any Basketball (Not NBA) fans here ? I am really looking forward to this event in Beijing.
My top teams are :- US, Argentina and Spain. I predict Americans to take the Gold but you can never count some of the Europe teams out. What are your predictions..which team are you supporting ? |

Think the Boomers squad is the strongest we've sent in a very long time. Definitely a semi-final chance. Lost no respect in their last warm up game against the Yanks.

Don't watch much basketball, but will follow at the Games. Probably going for the Greeks due to holiday connctions. Watched a bit of the qualifiers - Germany were very one-dimensional, get the ball to Nowitzki and hope...
Also, good to see an Aussie squad qualify on merit (Y)

Whenever Australia play America at Basketball, they should always turn on a massive stink to upset them, then see how the whole straight up gangsta crap goes without some bodyguard there in the stretch Hummer to help the NBA stars out. To this end, the omission of Barry Hall from the Aussie squad was a big mistake.

A silly rule that allows him to go back to the land of his great-grandmother (who he never met). As for the Olympics, Id give the USA 51% and the field 49% of winning it. Basically the US have the best chance but if another team wins then I wouldnt be shocked.

When push comes to shove they'll bulldoze us in the tournament proper. The Americans barely got out of second gear for our game, they ran no plays concentrating on a strictly isolation offence all game and rotated their bench far more than they would come crunch time. That said was pretty happy with how the boomers played but 2012 is going to be our best chance of a medal with our biggest talents like Ogilvy, Jawai, Newly and Mills will have had a lot more top level exposure and bogut will be well into the prime of his career then.

Apart from Dwight they could've used another big body or two as that would be their main advantage against some of the Latin teams who are perceived to be soft. Then again FIBA officiating is far more stringent on physicality so it might not be an avenue they could've exploited. |

Will have to put up with a lot of Basketball throughout the games due to the sister, looking forward to watching the Americans choke though.

Ouch Australia just got pummelled by Croatia in our opening game. Really was a beatdown by the Croatian team who were missing key players like Kasun, Markota, Giricek and Nikola Vujcic.
It hurts, they played proper team basketball and chasing shadows doesn't do the performance justice. |
