Predict Your Medal Table
So a French University pulled some predictions out of its arse and predicted China to get most golds in Beijing. Another study by Pricewaterhousecoopers predicts them to beat US in total number of medals
China 88 US 87 Russia 79 Germany 43 Australia 41 based on population, average income, political factors, host nation status and Olympic medal history. What's your table...top 5 or top 10 From Athens My guess US China Russia Australia Germany France Japan Italy GB Cuba |
The most important factor is home support and large investment in local athletes to perform for the home nation.
Look at the leaps by certain nations when hosting it. S Korea hosted in 88= 74% increase in medals Spain hosted 92= 550% increase in medals Aus hosted in 2000= 41% increase in medals Greece hosted in 04= 23% increase in medals. If we conservatively say the games in China will see a 40% increase in medals then they will have 88 medals. Id suggest USA will have a 10% loss of medals to partially cover this increase, leaving USA on 93. The top 4 will stay the same though in terms of total medals, ie USA, Russia, Germany and China. |
It's going to be awfully close though, hoping the US pulls it through.
