    I am very lucky

As most people know on here, I'm a cycling fan, but today I got a good close up view of a Four Wheel Drive or SUV today on my training ride.

So anyway, 43km into a 100km+ training ride, a bloke driving an a four wheel drive (or SUV), cut me off forcing me to crash into him, which sent me into a a a patch of grass outside the round about, which broke my helmet, and forced my brake cables to buckle in, and gave me a mild form of concussion (I can't remember the exact details of the incident), a spairned (sp) left wrist, and required dressings to put on my right knee, hip, elbow and shoulder and ripped my cycling gloves.

Credit for the guy for stopping and calling an ambulance and my parents (my dad was at work and my mum was at home) but apparently the guy claimed I rode him (ie my fault), but that is where he is wrong, I give a lot of respect for people in cars, and if I could I would have slowed down and let him go, I did not, so I keep going around the round about.

By Zues thank you for helmets and for me wearing it otherwise it could have been a lot worse.

    Ooops.

    Hope you are OK.

The general standard of driving in New Zealand is terrible.

What part do they live in?

Today's crash actually was the first time I have been in an ambulance, and yet I can never break a bone even if I tried.

The thing I hate about four wheel drive's/SUV's is why people need to have them in city areas, if you live out in the country or have a property out there, I can see the justification, but in the city I don't see much point as they take up so much room. In all honsety, they probably give some people an ego trip by having one.

Sue the ass off the guy.

Most countries now apply the rule that in the event of an accident involving a cyclist, the onus is on the driver of the motor vehicle to prove that he wasn't at fault.

That, and the fact that he's an arrogant SOB for driving a SUV (by default) means that you will more than likely get decent compensation for your bike, other equipment and injuries.

Ambulances are great - when I was ill a few months ago, I was rushed into hospital in one - with all the sticky pads on my chest and hooked up to the machine that goes 'PINGGGGG' too.

I'm not too dissimilar a batsman to Bradman.
Both of us have batting averages below 100.

Glad to hear your okay craig.. thats why i hardly ride bikes and stick to driving cars

The general standard of driving in New Zealand is terrible.
I think your wrong there mayn.. NZ driving is far from terrible.. it is only a certain part of the population that gives it that average driving rating.. nibbs will know what im on about.. and so will the other auckland / kiwis on the forum..
