Whining Americans... Petrol prices here are around 85p a litre.

I don't do Imperial measures of fluids desperately well!

1 Gallon = 8 Pints = 8 * 0.568 = 4.544 litres... so 0.85 * 4.544 = £3.86.

Convert that into (increasingly worthless) dollars and you get $7.10.

Which I feel is fairly conclusive.

Let me edit that...I meant litre not gallon...and the avg on how much a american uses his/her car thats $25 everyday on gas...and that is a lot if you are in the middle class

And back to the question in hand, it's about 1 and a half miles each way for me to get to work, so about 5 minutes (I always go early to miss the traffic)

I walk 2 miles to university every day on a very steep hill which is bit of a bugger.

PI, $2.10 per gallon is damn cheap mate . As per my estimation a US gallon is equal to around 3.7 litres. In India , 1 litre petrol costs around Rs 45 which equates to $ 1 . So the same petrol costs $ 3.7 in India . Here money is earned in Rupees and not dollars. It's still very cheap mate. Petrol prices are set to increase again by about Rs 2 within a fortnight due to increased oil prices.


My Junior college was about 7 kms from my house and i used to travel by bike. It took about 40 mins for the complete to and fro . Now i am having holidays and going to a morning class which is about 2.5 kms away and it takes about 10 mins for me for the complete duration included going and coming. Now i am applying for Nizam's College which is about 4 kms away from my house.

If you guys think it is cheap try to run your house at a avg of $30,000 a year in which you have to pay taxes...mortgage(if you have any), food, lots of other stuff and $25 more dollars a day on gas...trust me man it is not easy...it may look cheap but it is not cheap...

I know it's very hard and i come from a middle-class family myself. But i said that when that petrol price is compared with other countries, it is very very cheap.

If that's the money that coming in then there's little or no tax to pay...

And I'll think you'll find that a lot of people have to get by on that sort of money in the UK (I know I myself do) and our petrol is about 4 times that price.

People here in Australia complain about petrol prices all the time, but it is so incredibly cheap compared to other countries.

Anyway, it only takes me 5 mins to travel each way every week-day.
