Does anyone actually use those other options for steaming, grilling and such? Do they work?

“I was blown away by the quality of the sushi, especially the rice,” said Ripert, who runs the acclaimed French restaurant Le Bernardin in New York City, at a recent Japan Society event. “I had never tasted rice like that. It was like this cloud that explodes in your mouth.”
Just a wanker's ode to rice. What a crock of ****.

In addition to the best fish, Ono also has a special rice dealer who only sells his best grains to him because he believes he’s the only chef in the world who can properly cook his rice (the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, a five-star hotel, tried to retain his services, but he turned them down flat).
This is the biggest pull of the tiniest dick I've read in years, and I've read libertarian posts in the Politics subbie.

Throw together a piece of raw salmon on a bed of rice and you have "sophistication". And people book a year in advance for it. Good luck to the bloke, he's seen these numbskulls like zorax coming from 50 years ago. Then again, coming from HK it's understandable you'd think anything more than a cup of hot fat with a hair in it is palatable.

Classic narrow minded thinking from the unrefined palate of the mass consumer. Go back to watching MasterChef Burgey, you're not fit to comment on these matters.

Typical of zorax. Has no substantive response so resorts to the ad hominem attack.

Mind you, he probably thinks ad hominem is an instruction in the preparation of an Italian pasta dish, such is his lack of sophistication and knowledge of cuisine.

I'll save the substantive responses for someone who can differentiate between a macerate and a marinate thanks. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Basmati and Uncle Ben's, what's the point in explaining sophisticated food to you.

Fun fact - HKers are big fans of pasta. We've adopted it into our local cuisine. You get some mean spaghetti dishes at every corner here. Worth checking out if you're in town.

    Lol typical response

HK-style pasta is its own niche thing, but I don't expect you to understand this. Nuances of cuisine are clearly lost on you.

    Stick to MasterChef Burgmeister.

Looking forward to hearing about the subtle nuances of “niche pasta.”

Next thing he’ll be banging on about bespoke Mac n cheese. Bespoke because some imbo sells it on a street corner in Hong Kong. Whereas if he saw it anywhere else, he’d rightly walk past it and laugh the same way we giggle at these attempts of his at culinary sophistication by referencing an 80 year of rice cooker.
