Used to be a restaurant in Newbury that served stuff like Kangaroo, Ostrich and Crocodile. It is there no longer, sadly. But I enjoyed it on the odd occasion I went there.

Not an easy meat to cook because it's so lean, but as others have said, when it's done well it's awesome.

For a minute I thought TFO will get pounced on for making an insensitive thread. But I was wrong! Never knew it is a delicacy along with crocs.

Lol, fair enough as it is kinda our national animal mascot. But yeah we're not precious over it. It's over abundant and farmers want them culled I think

Is it farmers who want them culled or is there an Australian environmental agency who've made an assessment independent of farmers?

Obviously not going to be every single farmer, but my undersranding is that there's broad industry support.

Think I had a bite of a Kangaroo Burger once in Walkabout. However it just tasted like a normal burger so it was probably a beef burger.

Why? I had this debate with my wife.

The Kangaroo is to Australia what the sheep is to other places. The only rules that make it seem to be unlikely to be halal are actually kosher rules. All something needs to be eaten is to be a grass eater.

Now we just have to find out if the Emu is Hala (seems to pass)l. I might do a Coat of Arms next Ramadan.

I think you mistook the question. I'm not asking about industry support. I'm asking about independent environmental science - i.e. are kangaroos actually overrunning Australia (it can happen, things go wrong particularly when apex predators are being killed off), or are they just an annoying pest to farmers?

But we are not eating them because there are too many...we are eating them because we can. Same as sheep.

Sous Vide kangaroo is a rare delicacy that few will experience and yet it's utterly divine.
