Loved the series. Very educational. Man, the Soviet world was surreal. Denial and cover up attempts were unbelievable. When they said children in Germany, thousands of KM away, were not being allowed outside home while the city of Pripyat just 20KM away was not evacuated or even informed, it just sank me.

I saw the first 4 episode all over again after the 5th episode explained the events. Was able to make more sense of what was happening.

Is that from something else? Good line.
    Yup, very powerful. Memorable line.

It’s be hilarious if it wasn’t using a humanitarian tragedy for such a nakedly cynical agenda.

I just finished it last night and that line really stuck with me.

    Great show.

Some of the lines delivered by the local party apparatchiks about how everything’s alright would have been laughed out of a scriptwriter’s meeting. That probably tells us they’re real.

    Bleak show.

Disturbing and gripping. The best miniseries I’ve ever watched.

Tbh, although very good, the part surrounding the three divers bugs me, mainly because they didn’t volunteer, they were just on duty at the time. The heroic volunteer idea undercuts the Soviet narrative of the entire series, that participants in the whole ordeal just glumly accepted their fate because the choice not to wasn’t there.

Imagine how disturbing the ‘1000 years of sacrifice’ speech to a room full of dudes who didn’t have a choice would be, even if that aspect didn’t happen. Some puffed-up party official is standing in front of you saying “I spit on the people who did this and I curse the price I have to pay” to the people he’s forcing to pay it. Minor nitpick perhaps but I’d have thought it far darker than what the show gave us.
