We are pretty much the third best Olympic nation behind the US and China... we are fantastic at boxing, we have recent British winners in the golf and tennis majors. The current F1 champ is British... the reigning Tour de France champ is British... the undisputed heavyweight champ is British.

And as for the fans... we have a top league in every sport we take seriously... we even now have the NFL and NBA pleading to give us reach arounds as they know how awesome and knowledgeable a sporting public we are.

Hands down we are the p4p best sporting nation on the planet and this is also coupled with being a pillar and frontier of culture, education and the arts.

Indeed, the British heavyweight boxing resurgence.

Has there actually ever been a decent Australian boxing champion? Joe Bugner, for all his attributes, couldn't quite make up his mind, let's face it (whether he was Australian, British or infact Hungarian)?

The only thing worse than seeing Englishmen and Australians argue about cuisine is actually watching either of the teams play cricket.

You wouldn't even by in the top 100 champ, regardless of whether you're claiming Wales and Scotland or not

It is rather like the Australians live in a parallel world where Anthony Joshua is not heavyweight champ, where Britain does not get 25 odd medals per Olympics (unlike Australia's 8) and where a pie being drowned to death in a lake of mushy peas is not considered ''Australian cuisine''.

This is all objective fact haha

I dont really want to get into this debate at all but I will comment on this since it's the second time you've posted similar.......

My passport states I'm from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island.........not England. There are many perfectly valid historical reasons why we invariably compete separately but we put ourselves at a disadvantage by doing so.......not the opposite as you seem to be saying.

    Lots

Boxing has been dying a slow death here for years but Jeff Fenech, Les Darcy, etc are regarded as atgs

Used to live next door to Aussie Joe - incredible talent but he only fought for the money so didnt really do himself full justice

He was like a Greek statue, only slower. As the scribes said of him. Only bloke to go the distance with Ali and Frasier.

Are people really claiming Bugner as an Aus boxing legend? Jesus H Corbyn... he went to Aus in the 80s after his career had finished.. Frank Sinatra once told me he was 136 years old at that point.

Australia's best boxer is probably Kostya Tszyu.. who is about as Australian as vodka and kalashnikovs.

Gotta love Poms having a crack at other countries for adopting sportspeople as their own.

    good move PEWS

Personally think we should limit the food/cw memes/tedious miyagi arguments to non-match threads. Not fair for us to ruin match threads for people who really enjoy them for the cricket.

I think CW memes are fine when raised at appropriate times. But yea should clamp down harder on off-topic stuff, especially C grade 'banter' like this

All for a Miyagi cockblock on Match Threads too. Good idea Daemon. Glad you're the one who proposed that. Will make sure that we remember this.

I actually tried to avoid it because it wasn't your fault, but the post you quoted cleverly said something cricket-related and on topic before laying out the rancid bait that started this mess. I wanted to split it in half but alas, I can't do that in vBulletin.
