Mr M's Song Ratings

As the thread suggests, you'll find my song ratings here. Using Excel and an in-depth rating system I've decided to go into the business of grading songs. The grade is decided upon taking into consideration:

Artistry of the Music
The intricacy or simplicity used as artistic expression supplementing the song.

Originality of the Music
Originality among songs of present day, not necessarily among songs of the artist.

Staying Power of the Music

Artistry of the Lyrics
Poetic content and the means by which the author communicates his/her message.

Message
Affirmation/defamation, political/social/other commentary etc. The power of the message is judged here rather than the morality of it.

Emotion
Emotion expressed in the performance by the artist.

Humour
Not all songs will qualify to be judged in this category.

These will produce subtotals for lyrical quality and musical quality which add together to achieve the final result. These ratings are somewhat opinionated as are all music reviews.
Feel free to post your own comments, thoughts etc.

The ratings are as follows:
A+ = 40/40
A = 37-39/40
A- = 35-36/40
B+ = 34/40
B = 31-33/40
B- = 29-30/40
C+ = 27-28/40
C = 23-26/40
C- = 20-22/40
F = <20, >5/40
U = ungraded = 5, <5/40

Please feel free to totally disregard these ratings.

6 of those 7 are superb songs, at least 2 would make it onto my greatest songs of All Time CD.

Well mate, these are certainly my favourite bands as well. Mellow is good, and I think Liam would rate all my list of songs very highly too.

can mellow also mean middle of the road????

U2 are great...although I dont think they are quite hitting the heights they once attained.(Achtung Baby and Zooropa are amongst the great albums of the 90's)

Coldplay are good at what they do...but I think there is only so long they can recycle similar musical ideas

Matchbox 20 are i am afraid (and of course this is only my opinion) are way way to bland and shall I say 'adult-orientated' to have any impact on my varied musical tastes.

If you want to listen to 'mellow' and yet emotionally charged music try out some Spiritualized.

Can you rate Dr. Dre 'Forgot about Dre' featuring Eminem?

Their best work together ever.

I'll try to do as many of these as I can within the next week or so. Stay tuned, have already rated most of U2's work and will gradually release it.
