    Feminism thread

    Partially inspired by Dan's posts that refer to ecofeminist anarchosocialism (fmd I got auto complete suggestion as I was typing ecofeminist!). I think the topic of feminism deserves a thread. It's all over the place, can't be ignored. Even though this is a make dominated forum, we can expect good discussion on the subject.

    To start with, I think we can be sure that no one here disagrees that there should be equal opportunity and rights for men as well as women. What about rest of the feminist discourse? Such topics as "male privilege", "objectification" etc.

    I think all of us are a bit sub-consciously sexist, at the very least. I noticed a short time ago that I have a tendency to relish and celebrate genius male artists/musicians/sportstars and enjoy them being douchey, arrogant and narcisstic as adding to their charm independent of how they look but for genius women at the top of their field, how they look and act (The 'Taylor Swift', cooler than cool prototype) sub-consciously plays a huge role in my perception of how much I like them and am much less likely to appreciate an overweight, real life bitchy female artist than male artist. Part of this is how it's incredibly rare for successful women to be publicly as narcissistic and ambitious as men but the reason for this could be that it'd be frighteningly less accepted and the 'angry bitch' steretype would be out in full force. Trying to amend it obviously but ti's just one of the small ways a lot of us are sub-consciously sexist.

    I think we're far, far away from complete equality in any society and it's an important conversation. The thread will be more strictly moderated than usual and I hope and expect people not to exclusively take the piss of it.

    Moderating a thread about feminism more strictly and banning taking the piss definitely sends the right message.
