What you mean the hockey stat? It's transferred itself to football as well.

    Ah genuine misinterpretation from me.

I've been meaning to ask you why that meth head on the bicycle I've run into several times doesn't just sell his bike to contribute towards his "baby powder". There was a nice pub I went to last weekend though for a 21st. The parents were loaded though so the bar tab and free food made it doable.
    A quick getaway thing maybe.

As Johnners said dude, bad timing

But. It really depends how you interpret the question.

See, I was born in the wonderful town in Birkenhead and subsequently have spent the bulk of my life in the CH63 and CH62 postcodes (officially the 1st and 8th most desirable postcodes to live in in the UK. FACT). I support my hometown team, but that isn't the case for probably 80% of those born/from my side of the Mersey (completely plucked the 80% stat btw, basically based off experience from school, pubs etc). And hey, had I taken the fledgling interest in football aged 2/3, I could well have gone that route. My old man is a red. In fact up until just before I was born, he was a season ticket holder at Anfield. However for various reasons he rarely went the game from when I was young to about the mid-late 90s. Had he been going the game when I was young who's to say I wouldn't have wanted to go along. Instead, we moved house before I had really taken an interest in football and a lad up the street had a spare ticket for the (then) mighty whites and invited me along. I was hooked immediately.

Now you have to look at the maths. In my time supporting Tranmere I have experienced:

4 play-off semi defeats (3 in the Championship, 1 in League One)
A heroic run to the League Cup Final that ultimately ended in defeat
Three awesome FA Cup runs that ended at the quarters
Two relegations, and boy are we on the brink of the third
Several near misses and managing to go from 1st to 11th in the league in the space of the last seventeen games just two years ago. Two of the main rivals of ours at that point are now in with a great chance of Premier League while we head towards the Conference

Had I been a red, this is the approximate roll call:

1 Champions League and a runners-up for good measure
    1 UEFA Cup
1 or 2 Super Cups? Who knows?
A whole bunch of FA Cups and League Cups
7th in the Premier League being considered a failure

So on the face of it, I wish I'd followed the old man yeah? Who doesn't want success?

But nah. I'd go back and make the exact same decision. Everyone has their own reasons for supporting a club and that is completely up to them. I respect that. For me, likelihood of winning a trophy is not a reason I would ever pick. I want us to win trophies, get promoted, yes. But do I wish I supported a team that had done all of those things? No. I wish my team, Tranmere Rovers, had done all of those things. I wish we hadn't been so badly mismanaged for two decades since Johnson wanted a new ****ing blue toy. But for me personally, supporting that team that, for better or worse, represents the town in which you were born, that until recently bore the 'Wirral' name on the shirts via sposnorship and is indeed the Wirral's only professional sports team - no I would not swap that. This is who I am.

If I could go back and suffer it all again, I would. Ubi fides ibi lux et robur. SWA.

Have to say, I may not be a huge fan of the sport, but the concept of the English football pyramid is awesome. So jealous.

It goes OK. Seasons aren't really long enough though, so you can get a side that is basically unlucky, lucky for the entire season. Some sides have kind of broken it as well. Nice one BVB.]

The reason you didn't know is it's only been around a couple of seasons and is still really niche. >99% of football fans probably don't have a clue what it is.

Now for my question. How did you know I knew what it was?

It is fantastic. Is there anything else in the world like it?

And yet the people who run our game want to destroy it. Sigh.

that still happens in the NHL. can lead to awesome stuff like this though. (Colorado had a really bad season, then a really really good season where they defeated advanced stats, and then had a really bad season this year...)

i saw you mention it in the football thread talking about some player, which is strikingly similar to PDO's origin story
