CW Short Story Competition Number 2

We ran this the first time what seemed like last year but was actually back in 2012.

    The thread was here
And the results thread was here

If you fancy yourself as the creative type or reckon you can spin a good yarn then this is the competition for you.

Stories must be minimum 500 words up to 2500 words.

You will have up to May 31 2015 to write your story.

To the winner goes the title CW short story champion and you will get your story published in this thread.

You will email your completed story to cwshortstory@gmail.com

I am looking for 2-3 volunteer judges. Judges will receive the stories from me with the author names replaced by random numbers to avoid any bias in the judging. After they have finished judging they will be told who wrote each story.

Please respond in this thread indicating if you are in. Or if you would like to be a Judge.
I have had expressions of Interest to compete from GIMH, Heef and Spark so far.

It should be noted that GIMH won last time and will probably provide stiff competition again this time.

    Rules

Must be your own work. But I will allow stories inspired by something you have read or seen in a movie just don't rip something off.
You can make quotes of books if they don't exceed 5% of the word count.

Yes you can brush off an old story you have written for another purpose. So long as you do brush it up a bit for this competition.

Topic Choice - you can pick anything you want but it should be fiction.

Between 500-2500 words. Please include your word count in your covering email.

Any disputes or other rulings will be settled by myself in consultation with the judges.

    Scoring Guide as follows:

Scores out of 10 for each section unless otherwise noted:

Beginning (out of 5): Does writer engage the reader's attention immediately? Is tone, setting and characters established quickly?

Characterization: Are characters believable, well-rounded? Actions and interactions consistent and well motivated?

Plot: Is the story interesting and compelling to read?

Style: Is writing fresh and free of cliches? Is there a strong/creative use of the english language and a compelling writing style?

Mechanics (out of 5): Is grammar and punctuation correct?
    Spelling accurate?

Bonus points for any Kane Williamson and Trent Boult fan fiction

Proudly against the bring back Bennett movement since he is injury prone and won't last 5 days.

I will be keen, but I will be AWOL for the whole of May, so timing will be tricky for me.

I am happy to make an adjustment to the timeline given your prompting of this gave me the idea to run it again. Make a suggestion for a deadline June that you can make.
Would extending to June 14th sort it for you.

Since when does a short-story have a minimum word limit.
The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

May 31st should be achievable. Looking forwards to having another crack at this.

    Wonderful. Thank you Howe.

Be sure to score my entry higher this time, even though you won't know the author's name, mine will be the lascivious one.

The best way to get points out of me is to write about Digimon

That'll be fine. I suspect I'll get the bones of it written before I go - I've had a reasonably well developed idea for a short story to work on for months.

I might be keen for this, should have a crack at half term.

Any prompts/plot ideas, or total free for all?
