    Attn: Wellingtonians

Plenty of Wellingtonians on the board. I'm looking to organise a backyard cricket test match somewhere in Wellington City on Sunday 15th March. Kind of a celebration of the world cup and the end of the summer. Got at least 11 roped in so far, not all of whom I know - but was hoping to get 20-ish in order to get a proper match going.

If anyone's keen - let me know. No abilities required.

I am 80% sure I can make it.

    PM me on cricsim details.

I am getting in the day before from a road trip and may be a bit tired (hence the 20% unsure)
I got great enjoyment shouting "WHY THE **** ISN'T THIS GAME BEING PLAYED AT THE BASIN?!>!?!?" to reasonably significant cheers from the sparse crowd
one day NZ will bring chappell to his knees in a puddle of his own tears and you'll see Phlegm on his belly greedily tasting every delicious tear before watching the hope fade from that old ****s eyes.

I've always been crap at backyard cricket but quite reasonable at club cricket. Backyard cricket favours - well I don't really know what sort of technique - just not my technique anyway probably because the tennis ball doesn't come on the bat.

I am also scarred by an epic game I had when I was 18 - I had one wicket left and my last batsman scored 30 runs but then got out needing 2 to win. Never recovered from that really.

Bugger, I'm away in Auckland that weekend, but it's an awesome idea!

I need to get down to Wellington in the next month or two anyway, so that might actually work.

If I'm down with a couple of mates (very good ex-club cricketers), would the 3 of us be able to get in?

    When do you need confirmation?

Incidentally Heath, depending on how seriously you want to take it, last time we had a school reunion game at our local park, rather than using wickets, we had kegs at both ends, with the rule being nobody leaves the ground until the kegs are empty.

Needless to say level of cricket, scoring & umpiring understandably suffered as the day went on...but great fun nonetheless...

No need for confirmation - we'll be going ahead regardless of numbers. Its a very mixed crowd, so there'll be a few guys who've never played much before, but if you turn up - turn up with as many friends as you like - and that goes for anyone else who's keen to come along.

Not planning to take it seriously, but depending on the location we might be in the Wellington no-alcohol zone. Current plan is to play in Waitangi Park on the waterfront, but I suspect we'll end up playing in the park at the top of Majoribanks Street where we're much more likely to be able to have a few jars - which I'd also be quite keen on.

This went really well. There were 10 of us (only one other CW member) but really easy to organise and sort out, and we have good weather for it too. Might do it again some other time.
