I do agree that drones or aerial bombardment won't solve anything, but rather create more problems.

Unless of course the Syrians have the monopoly on suffering in the world.
I think he was specifically referring to victims of ISIS

    Who has been funding ISIS?

Someone was telling me it was Israel because all this instability in the region is in their interest, so that the Arabs don't gang up on them? Is this true?

Do you really need us to tell you the flaws in that theory?

This guys gives an interesting outline of the history of the West's interventions in The Middle East:

How the West is responsible for all the problems in the Middle East | Seth J. Frantzman

Although I wouldn't say the west is responsible for all the problems...having two groups with different takes on the same religion deciding they want to kill each other doesn't help. But I guess it's possible the interventions we made over the years gave them a massive, "Hey...look over here", and the more extreme elements have made us their focus; as well as caused a multitude of other problems that led up to this. In hindsight, you'd probably leave everything alone...if there wasn't oil involved that is.

On an individual level, I always find it pretty funny when we assume people from other cultures want the same things we do - mainly because people who assume this often get played in a big way by people who don't think the same way they do, or don't have the same cultural norms. I see it regularly at work, and on such a small scale it results in our university systems becoming more ineffective at actually providing quality education. The inmates take over the asylum.

On a global scale, where it's much more serious and the **** tends to completely hit the fan, and then lots of people die, it's not quite so funny.
