    CW50 - Albums

So, you may have noticed Ikki dug up a thread from the CW50 bands I ran back in 2012 (I imagine his dig came about because I was liking old posts after a few light refreshments last night)

I've since pondered running one again but for albums. The results would likely be a narrower - we had votes for over 300 bands last time so the potential for stacks of albums to be voted for is massive.

for those not familiar, how it works is:

you out email me a list of your favourite/top 25 albums, from 1-25 (the criteria you use to compile your list is completely at your discretion)
I collate all lists, with each 1st place receiving 25 points, 2nd receiving 24 and so forth
After all lists are received, we publish the top 50. If people have the desire, then we can use the same format as last time where people volunteer to do write-ups and I let them know which albums of theirs I need
we start with 50-41, then 40-31 etc and then the top ten get their own threads

I think we had something like thirty lists last time.

So, are people interested or shall I go away and pretend I never made this thread?

    NOTE:

25 nominations required by Saturday 1st November!

Keen, but I think you may need more participants or to let people vote for 50 albums to ensure that there is some kind of consensus formed with respect to the top album.

Yep I am in - just let me know when you are ready for emails (plus your email address) - also totally agree with the person who voted the album the highest doing the write up.

The only stupid please forgive me question I have is what about best of albums. I am rather partial to the eagles best of album. But almost think a best of album isn't really an "album", Where do you weigh in on this.

Proudly against the bring back Bennett movement since he is injury prone and won't last 5 days.

Happy to go with a consensus on the compilations issue. What do people think?

Compilations have to be left out IMO, as do live albums. Published studio albums only, I reckon.

    Largely agree.

Wrt your point about people voting for 50 Heef, my worry would be that it would reduce the number of people prepared to vote. Will let the people decide because I do see your point

I'll share my email address once we have this sorted

Happy to nominate my top 25 albums GIMH, but don't think I'd be ****ed reviewing them.

Largely agree, but think some concessions should be made for LPs that have become an accepted part of a band's oeuvre (oh, yes, I went there) like Hatful of Hollow, Kick Out The Jams, Unplugged in New York, The Masterplan and The Magical Mystery Tour.

Yeah absolutely fine. Want it clear that a write up is not an expectation and more something that a few people would want to do

If we can get a few opinions on Heef's point on the number of albums then I'll share my email address and we can crack on.

Gonna take me a while to pick my list tbh. Top 3 is sorted, after that..,.

As in whether an album counts yeah?

So what you reckon, 25 or 50?

I wouldn't include Best of's but see no reason why a live album can't be included.

I think voting for just 25 is fine - pretty sure after 4 people have nominated we'd have 50+ albums.

Just a suggestion (don't mind so much if it's quickly dismissed) but should we nominate and get someone else to second albums are get a big list to chose our 25 from or is that taking the surprise out of the final countdown too much? I like music but don't pretend to know anywhere nearly as much as yer Brumby's, so would probably easily overlook some albums that I like, but had forgotten.

Over 0.2: Putland to Nevill, OUT, no run, full ball swings in late to crash into his pads. Nevill is almost falling over trying to get bat on it but can't. Huge shout for LBW and Umpire Martell eventually raises the finger! P.Nevill - lbw b:Putland 0 (1 ball, 1 minute).

I would say open nominations would probably lessen the effect tbh mate. Can see what you mean but would rather keep it simple

Okay we will go with 25. If we run into issues once I'm collating scores I'll post in here to invite suggestions as to how to proceed

Get cracking folks. No deadline but post in here if you're planning to submit one as I'll keep voting open as long as I know lists are going to be coming in
