The bit where Key refused to comment on Judith Collins leaking the name of a civil servant to Slater (which she has admitted to) was damning.

Prime Minister stands by minister and staff | Morning Report, 7:10 am on 18 August 2014 | Radio New Zealand

Here is the interview just listened to it. Guyon gave him both barrels.

Proudly against the bring back Bennett movement since he is injury prone and won't last 5 days.

Indeed. Guyon is usually so mild-mannered, I suspect the severity of the interview caught John Key somewhat by surprise. About bloody time the media put him under a bit of pressure. Also about time Collins got the boot too.

How is this any surprise, though? Have you not been paying attention to Key for the last 6ish years?

I take it you won't be voting for him?

No. Apart from his views on legalising same sex marriages, I can't think of anything that he's said that I'd agree with.

I'm not an expert on it - and am googling it now. I know there were stories about the spying really taking off under his leadership

"It looks like John Key has had another brain fade about changes made in 2009 that opened the flow of information that the 5 Eyes network shared with his Government. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence could remember New Zealand's reintegration in 2009 but John Key couldn't.
I could be wrong Hendrix - I just remember TV3 doing an expose and showing handshake deals between our government and the US recently.

If you listen to these governments, in response to the stories that we’ve been reporting, what they’ll say is, to their own citizens, “You don’t need to worry because there’s all these restrictions on how we can spy on you. Yes, we can spy on the rest of the world as much as we want, but” these governments say, “when it comes to you, our wonderful citizens, we have all kinds of legal restrictions,..

This is the kind of thing that Key and Fletcher have said to us. Greenwald refers to a document, published for the first time, that he claims shows these governments,

will ask their surveillance partners to spy on their own people, and then give them the fruits of that surveillance. So they can learn everything that they want to know about their own population, while pretending to abide by the legal restrictions that have been imposed on them.

So, Mr Key, what exactly do you know about all this? What haven’t you been telling us?

Labour are finally doing the smart thing and going back on unaffordable policies (free healthcare for over 65s) and highlighting the actual sensible parts of their policies:

    1. Capital gains tax.

    2. Raising the pension age.

Meanwhile, National's utterly ridiculous policy to increase Kiwisaver funding for first home buyers will only fuel the already outrageous housing market.

Finally Labour seem to understand what they've been doing wrong. Probably too little too late, but I'm happy nonetheless, and hey, at least I know who I'm voting for now.

    First debate
John Key 61% said he won it
Cunliffe 39% said he won it

I think the debate just confirmed people's opinions rather than creating any swing votes. Thought Cunliffe didn't better than I expected and he is an upgrade on Phil Goff.

That's interesting, because most of the media commentators are arguing that, on-balance, Cunliffe probably won the debate. That poll - and the other 2 election polls that were released over the last couple of days - would probably seem to indicate that the Dirty Politics revelations haven't made a significant impression on the electorate.

99* pointed out that I posted a TVNZ poll that was based on paid texts that may have skewed the results.
