How is there a missile capable of shooting down a meteor? It's also the first meteor I've ever seen which has left a plume of smoke.

No way a missile "blew up" a meteor.
Sometimes the heat and the pressure differentials cause meteors to "explode" in the atmosphere. It's called a bolide - I think that's what the current thinking is.
