As a vocal atheist, I am politically active, together with others, to prevent religious people (over here mostly Christians), from bothering me and society with there religious beliefs, and to get rid off the still remaining not-so-secular laws we have.

If others think that, as such, I am a member of the atheist church...., well, whatever.
Otherwise, I find the idea of an atheist church quite laughable. For me, the word church means organised religion. Non-religious people organised in religion is just stupid, in my humble opinion.

Maybe this is a lingual thing, but the Dutch word for church (kerk, both words, as well as the German (Kirche) and all Scandinavian and some Slavic words, come from the same medieval germanic word kirika, which is derived from the greek word kuriakon, meaning house of the lord) defenitely implies some religious activity.... The only exception is when the building is referred to, rather than the institute.

It's more of a parody term IMO chosen to gather attention. You have other religions like the sphagetti monster and Invisible pink unicorn which take the mickey out of organized religions.
