Hi guys!
Don't wanted to drop in and again thank everyone who donated.
I got back from Borneo a week ago and am still trying to adjust to the realities of life outside the jungle.
The trip was a once in a lifetime experience full of amazingly positive people, challenges, and breathtaking wildlife/scenery.
I got to spend a week with the local people in Sarawak in their communal longhouses and completely isolated from the world camping in the jungle.
Trekking through the untouched jungle was definitely challenging but our 10+ hour trek was rewarded with spotting an orang-utan and her baby about an hour out from camp. We were all exhausted, sore, and riddled with leeches but we all stopped, transfixed for about half an hour as we watched her swing from the tall trees, shielding her baby from us in her thick fur.
No technology, only the sounds of the jungle and nature, for a week was so healthy. I was reluctant to even turn on my old nokia on again once we got back to the city.
But, visiting the wildlife sanctuaries, preparing food for the orang-utan inhabitants, cleaning their enclosures, and generally viewing them as they did their thing was something I won't forget either.
For those who donated, remember your money goes to such a good cause in the RSPCA. I know firsthand of what they do, and it's crucial. But, some of the funds were also given to the Semenggoh wildlife sanctuary. Here they give orang-utans who've had a bad life a chance to live peacefully in a protected area.
So, thank you!!!![]()
Also, here are some photos!
This guy is waiting for us to hand him his sack of food. He knows when lunch is.
Getting drunk on rice wine with the locals
Me and a local, Jun, and apparently I'm the funniest person ever. We're both wasted.
I gave this little kid my collapsable cup - hours of amusement followed
