Don't underestimate the importance of keeping one side of the ball in good nick. Drift works on the same principles as swing bowling, so make sure you berate seamers who don't bowl seam up properly. They're screwing you by bowling bad.

Also, make sure you're not scrambling the seam. If you're scrambling the seam you won't get drift.

Drift is down to a combination of the Magnus effect (the same as soccer ball curl), conventional swing mechanics, and wind assistance. If you don't want to rely on the latter two which you often have little control over, work on putting plenty of revs on the ball.
