CW Short Story Competition - Results Thread

In keeping with the nature of the thread its title is a work of fiction. This is because despite burning the midnight oil the judging panel have been unable to split stories 102 and 106, which won by a short head from 105.

So all seven entrants are attached, and all seven are options in the poll - that said we are mainly interested in which of 102 and 106 gets more votes, so no point in trying to make the judges look stupid (we do that perfectly well ourselves anyway) by everyone voting against us.

Finally we still don't know who the authors are so could they please hold off from claiming authorship until Hurricane gives the nod.

I only have the time and concentration span to read one. Which of them has the most sex scenes?

107, though to be honest I doubt it will provoke you to an onanistic frenzy

I agree with the top 2 - without taking note of the numbers originally I thought 102 and 106 stood out.

Awesome work Fred. Massive thank you for the judging, compiling the results, and making this thread. Thanks also to Howe.

Proudly against the bring back Bennett movement since he is injury prone and won't last 5 days.

Can't profess to be a fan of 102, personally. Find it a little superficial. Quite like 106 though, so I've gone with that - even if it does have the makings of a Guy Ritchie film somewhere in there between the lines.

Fair effort all round. Easier to critique than to actually write something so I'll do the former. If it's between those two I'd probably vote 106, just gripped me a bit more. Reads a bit like a cold open to a movie or tv show.

I liked 101, had me intrigued and was well written (though overwrought at times which killed the flow a bit). Interesting ending though I'm not sure I fully understood it. 107 was strangely fascinating. The odd punctuation and occasionally awkward sentence structure were jarring, but suited the tone and setting of the story rather well, so I'm curious as to what extent that was a stylistic choice. Would be a solid piece with a bit of editing.

106 and 102 definately stuck out, i quite enjoyed 101 as well. Good stuff all round though. Of the two I think I'm slightly leaning towards 106. 102 had the best plot concept and development. But the prose style of 106 was clearly the most compelling.

Edit: Coincidentally, old speckled hen is my particular favourite ale.

Read them all now. Probably liked 105 the most overall. Other than: "We so cray!" which made me think of the two characters as cray-fish. Kind of.

    105 from 106 for me.

Can I reconsider the way I scored it now I know who wrote them?
