The Best Video Game Ever
I was discussing this with my elder son this morning during our walk into town. He's an avid gamer, which is odd 'cos he does have a girlfriend, and he reeled off all sorts of names that I'm only vaguely familiar with.
Up until about 10 years ago I played a lot myself, and indeed still do occasionally, although I've always tended to just play one game at a time, and the 1st anniversary of my being stuck on Resident Evil 5 is fast approaching - but anyway for me nothing has ever come close to the first Playstation game I ever played for any length of time, which was the original Doom - I never played the iconic PC version, and I think the Playstation effort was actually a combination of the first two in the series - fantastic game and as a result of the memories stirred I shall be up in the loft tonight looking for game and console. I know the graphics are awful by today's standards, and the sound too (although incredibly atmospheric) but I never enjoyed a game as much again |

Im an avid gamer too, a pc gamer to be precise.
For me the best videogame ever is Diablo 2. I have been playing it since release my whole grown-up life. Incredible number of options to build a hero, unparalleled replayability and absolutely unmatched longevity and stable mature community among all games. No games like it anymore...we shall see how Diablo 3 pans out in a few years. |

If I'm to compile a list of all the games I've really enjoyed and have left a lasting impression on me it'd be go something like this:
Megadrive/Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Sonic the Hedgehog 3 N64: Lylat Wars Goldeneye The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Dreamcast: Sonic Adventure Shenmue PS2: Final Fantasy X Xbox 360: Mass Effect & Mass Effect 2 Red Dead Redemption I think I could play all of these games through again now and still not be bored, such is their lasting appeal. Probably a few I have forgotten about, but will have a think. |

On the Amstrad. Only took 30 minutes to load on the old cassette deck. |
Sabre Wulf. So simple but I could quite happily play it now. Still remember the music. Still remember the sounds of your pith helmeted guy flying across the screen and plopping down on his bum. The sound of the sword against the warriors and hippos.
